Not that i recommend this, but i have been told by my Father-in-law that his mother used a spoon on the gums to work them out. Other than that I'm sorry i can't be any help.

I have read that if you want to work teeth through any faster.. and you see a tooth trying to work it's way through a swollen gum, you could just gently rub the gum with your finger, and help the tooth along. Your child may not like it too much, but it might help! I'm not sure about the amount of teeth your child should have at this age, however she has been seen by a dentist, and he/she didn't seem too concerned, so I would just try and relax a little. If you're worried about her diet, my pediatrician recommended giving my son a 1/2 of a multi-vitamin once a day (ask your doc first), or maybe you could pick up some pediasure at the store? It will help with the vitamins/minerals your child may be lacking in her diet. My child is slightly underweight for his age: I blame his length, and total lack of interest in eating most of the time, but he has tons of energy, so my doctor and myself are not worried. If you're daughter is developing correctly and is active, it's a good chance you shouldn't be either. Also contact a doc for a peace of mind! Good luck to you and your baby girl....

Your daughter is late getting teeth, but as the dentist said, there is really nothing you can do. They will come, I promise you!
My daughter got teeth really late, too. Some of her friends were losing their first teeth in preschool, and she didn't lose her first one until the middle of second grade! She is now 12 and still has 8 baby teeth to lose. Many of her friends have already lost them all. The only real problem, if you can call it that, is that they will not put braces on her teeth until she has lost all the baby teeth. This might be another couple of years. So she is likely to be getting braces about the time many kids are getting them off. Not such a big deal overall though!

My dentist says if they get then slow they will lose them later than other kids. Kind of makes sense -- some kids have a mouthful at 8 mos. I think my daughter had like 4 teeth and then like other posters said, at like 18-20 mos that mouth filled in.
Good foods: canned pears in small pieces (just the mushy ones), graham crackers, cheerios, those fruit poofy things (wheels), teething biscuits, ravioli -- cut up small, I also got a babyfood book and did some simple recipes myself.
Get the oragel of sylactin swabs for when the teething starts. I think they are the best around!

Like everyone else has said, they'll show up when they show up. Do NOT force her teeth in by using a spoon, you can cause damage to her gums and teeth. As for foods, give her cubed foods that she can eat like the other kids, but can still "gum". If there are things that you don't think she can eat because she can't chew them, break them up, or use a meat mallet to tenderize them. You'd be surprised what kids without teeth can eat. Just watch her really well to make sure she's not swallowing before it's "gummed" enough. She'll be okay. Good luck! =)

I have had a dentist say it is good when they get their teeth late because that means they will loose them later and it gives their baby teeth the chance to get the cavities instead of the perm teeth. Since they will be able to take better care of their own teeth when they start loosing them. Does your girl like mashed potatoes? Mine ate those like crazy and requires no teeth. Cheerios are still good since they dissolve fast in your mouth. Peas are easy too and bananas also. Good luck

My son is 20 months old also but he has all of his teeth.
Please don't compare your child to other people's children though it will make you worry. They will come in. I promise. How is he with the other milestones? Sometimes things happen when they are ready. Like my son does not have any hair yet. Was she a delievered early? My mom had me at six months pregnant and I didn't have teeth, hair, walk or crawl until I was almost 3. I am sure she is making up for it with other things. Also try to give her more milk and things to help them grow.

My son was 17 months old before he even had a bump on his gums for the first time! I was just as distressed as you are. Don't worry. On his second birthday (7 months later) he had 6 teeth. They just seemed to appear two at a time. The Pediatricitan said it was unusual, but not a huge concern. He has suffered no ill effects, and has beautiful teeth now!
