The dog loves to chew up paper products. Even when they are not on the floor.

When you catch him doing it take it from him, in a stern voice say "no". do not hit him with it. Then give him something that he can chew on. He needs to know what he can and cant chew on.
Never dicipline him if he is not caught in the act. If he is doing is while you are gone. Kennel training is good and kennel train him with stuff to chew on.

First, get a different vet. What moron throws up hands on a three year old dog? Was there any testing done? Any suggestions of finding the cause and eliminating it? Vigorous chewing is often caused by allergens. Think back to when the chewing began. Had the carpet been shampooed? Were new drapes installed? Was a fertilizer put down in the yard? Was her food changed? If you can't think of a thing that was new in the week or two before she began to yank fur, then we may be dealing with a food allergy that has built up over time. Does her food list any wheat, soy, or corn in the first five ingredients? Wheat is a common allergen. Go shopping in a food specialty store and find one without wheat. Switch your dog to that food and don't forget to check the ingredients on her treats. A lot of those have wheat also. Ask your new vet for a corticosteroid shot to block her urge to chew until the new food has a chance to work.

How old is your dog?

You have a lab cross dog. Labs are mouthy and tend to chew. This is not wrong..it is what dogs do. So the idea is not to stop the dog from chewing, it is to get the dog to chew appopriate things.

So make sure your dog has lots of chew toys. Kongs are great, rubber squishy balls are good, raw knuckle bones are great. Then when your dog is chewing any of the appropriate items, make a bit of a fuss. Tell the dog it is a great dog chewing the bone. Or the ball, or whatever.

If your dog is a pup and is chewing paper products, try and keep that stuff out of the way. If you catch the dog chewing on something, remove it from the dog and tell it to "Leave it...yuck".

So again, the idea is not to stop the dog from chewing, but to give it things that it can chew.

Some dogs get over that chewing thing following the puppy stage of life. My Rat terrier still loves to chew up paper. He's 9 years old! So I can't really scold him or punish him. In fact it's kind of funny seeing him acting like a puppy. A second puppyhood!

Buy your dog a Kong toy. They are made of hard rubber and you put little treats inside it and the dog will play with it for hours. It will distract the dog and keep it busy. There are also other toys that can be filled with the dog treats and they will keep a dog busy till they are tired of playing.

This means your dog isn't being properly supervised. There are no bad dogs, just pre-occupied owners. If you can't have your eyes/ears on him, he needs to be in his crate where he is safe from harm and destruction.

i know it sounds mean but grab the paper and crumple it up in his face and tell him no no no ... with a good tone in your voice and everytime you do that it will discourage him from playing with paper.... it works just keep on it...
