I have Vista installed on my C Drive, which upgraded XP. I then found out I could use Vista to shrink C, and use the unallocated space to make a new partition, which I assigned as E. I installed Windows XP on E so that I could dual boot. XP is now running. But I can't boot into Vista. I've tapped F8, and gone to my BIOS setup, but I don't know how to boot into Vista now. How do I boot into it?

when u let the computer boot there should be a screen that pops up and has a 30 second time on it and there should be multiple selections there if that doesnt work right click my computer, properties select the advanced tab and click the settings button under startup and recovery and there you can see if u have multiple OS's on ur Hard drive. If you only have one u may have put one of you OS's on the top of the other on the same partition.

The official Microsoft answer is this, you have to install the older operating system first. This is because Win XP/2000 both use the boot.ini file for multiboot options and Vista uses a newer BCD (Boot Configuration Data) file. Under WinXP/2000 your boot.ini file looked something like this:

;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Edition" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Professional" /
fastdetect

Use the bcdedit.exe to modify boot settings for Vista or you can end up causing problems. Below is the link to the Vista for IT Professionals link.
