my son was the same age as yours, and did the same things, i got him a potty chair made expecially for boys, that has a guard for the pee,(so it goes in the potty not in the floor,) and i would sit him on it, and say he's growing up, and he loved the thought of it, it didn't take long after that he was potty trained.......and wipes his own butt!!!! put cheerios in the toilet, and let him try to hit them, tell him he's doing a good job, plus my baby's daddy, would go in there and show him the first few times, make it a game, he'll enjoy it, good luck

Sounds like he is ready. He realizes things are going on down there; it is a perfect time to introduce him to a potty chair. It is great that he is interested and sees grownups. There are several books aimed at todlers for potty training. It's setup as a nice story so the child gets to enjoy a great book with mom or dad while also learning how to be a big kid.
Good luck!

The hardest part about potty training is the child staying dry all night. If their diaper is dry in the morning then they should be ready to go. My son was 2 1/2 when we trained him. By the end of a week he was fully trained with no accidents. If you do it too early then you have the chance of your child having more accidents which just takes a little more patience on your part. I knew my son was ready when he started taking off his diaper to go the bathroom. The hardest for me was getting him to do number two.
A good book Once Upon A Potty for boys.

well i tryed hard to force him and wake up at 6 in the morning with him and sit with him in the potty and get mad when he would wet the daiper but that did not work. he'd do it once in a while but not consistently. i started showing him all the (im a big kid now pull up commercials of kids going potty and explained the situation. that made him want to be a big kid but the best solusion is to take off the daiper all together because it creates security. put baby drawls on and let them get wet and still sit them in the potty. they have to know that if they dont rush to the potty they will really wet themselves and the floor and they become very causious. but u have to keep sitting them on the potty to train their little leg muscles to get use to going and sitting in the potty. always make it a big celebration when they do pee in the potty and tell them u are proud of them. hope it helps!

The most recognized signs are having words for both urination and bowel movements, showing an interest in the bathroom, and being about to stay dry during at least nap times, if not all night. While not impossible, 16 months is a little young.

If he has a favorite stuffed animal, have him teach that animal/doll how to go potty. Then, ask him to do the same thing. But always tell him to at least try. Sit him on the toilet before bedtime and bathtime. Also have him watch a male figure he looks up to go to the bathroom. Teach both ways...standing up and sitting down. But you know when he is ready when he starts hiding to pee or poop in his diaper/pull-up.

If he is only 16 months old I would wait a bit. My daughter showed signs like this. But remeber every child is differant, She would wake up in the morning and be dry as well as nap time. She would also come to me and say pee pee. We are still working on the poo poo part. Your child will definitly give signals when they are ready.
Good Luck Also we put panties or cloth pullups on or daughter this made her more aware of when she went to the bathroom and what the urges to go felt like.

You never know if they are ready until it actually happens!!! lol They will show tons and tons of interest but might not do it. The best thing I found to work, is to encourage it, not force in anyway. If you go to the bathroom ask if he needs to go, same with dad. The more he gets used to it, the easier the transition will be!
Good luck!

I didn't use any books but if he wants to go potty like mommy or daddy, then maybe you can start. Be patient and know that there will be accidents. See if he's interested and try to pay attention to his potty times.
