It can get really cold if you fly too high, but, as of course you know, you attract so much unwanted attention if you keep closer to the ground. Any advice?

Well if you fly by night you're less likely to be seen, but if you get too high then the wind would blow you right off and much like climbing a mountain, you would lose your breath and risk health problems. I would go about as high as you feel comfortable. If you don't want people to see, then go by night and stay atleast above the tallest building around. (i don't know altitude)

well besides the cold, your lungs wouldn't be ale to survive on the thin air, and you'd die. but i think if you were to ask this to someone that knows about flying airplanes, broomsticks and the like, you'll get a good even # to go off of.

Only fly after dark, and stay above the power lines.

Well... you want to fly above the height of Baptist anti-air-broom fire and you need to fly low enough to avoid catholic anti witch missiles... get a pal in the air force to lend you a radar with ground hugging capabilities and load your pockets up with chaff... you will need it.

good luck... and don't forget to nail your cats paws to the broom.....
