Can you can your own home made soups? Where can I find a reference on how to do so and how long they last?

if you buy a box of canning jars they come with lids and tops if clean them all and boil the jars and lids (the screw tops don't need to be boiled) Pour the soup into the jars, use a funnel so you don't get anything on the top of the jars if anything splashes on them wipe them off then put the lids if the soup is hot enough the lids will seal themselves jars that don't seal after 4 or 5 hours can be put in a boiler its a pan that holds 4 jars then you fill about 1/2 full of water and boil for about 20 min you will hear popping noises when the jars seal we eat tomatos and salsa that is about a year old

You need the "Ball Blue Book" the big book of canning put out by Ball canning co. As a general rule, you cannot can (1) meats or (2) pastas. Meats will go bad under most home-canning circumstances. And pasta will continue to swell after canning, absorbing your broth and turning to a hunk of mush.

yes you can can soups, but freezing is cheaper and easier.
The department of agriculture used to put out a good manual on canning.
