My Fiancee and I are eloping next summer and we're only having our parents, siblings, and grandparents there. My Bridesmaids are my Mom, Sister and my Fiancee's Sister. I am wearing my dress while we get eloped and Matt will be in a tux along with my brother and his brother...
My question is, if we're dressed up I want our family to be to, which they will, but I want my Bridemaids in dresses which won't be a problem but since we're eloping we're coming home and having a reception...I am wearing my wedding dress again and I would like for them to as well, would that be odd? Our reception is going to be just as it would be if everyone was coming to the church first then the hall, we're just skipping the church part.
Do you think it would be weird to have us in wedding attire?

Just because you are eloping does not mean that it can't be a formal attire affair. It is not odd for them to wear their brdesmaids dresses to the reception, I promise. You all will look lovely and everyone will be able to see how beautiful you looked on your actual wedding day.

Sorry to burst your bubble, you're not eloping...You have a set plan and you have invited people. Eloping is when you take off on the spur of the moment and just get married just the two of you no family. But to answer your question It wouldn't be weird for you to wear your dress again, I think it would be very nice to wear your dress again as well as your attendants. I think people would like to see you in your attire too.

If you were eloping then no one would know about it. Eloping is were only you and him and maybe a couple of your friends know about it and you just do it. Your friends only know because you've asked them to stand up for you as witnesses. It's your wedding so do it up the way that you want to remember it. You don't want to look back at it some day and wish you did something else or that you wished you'd ask your family to dress up.

I think it's wierd you are having a reception for an eloped wedding. Isn't the point of eloping is so you don't have to go through all of that? Sounds more like you are having a destination wedding.

It sounds like your more having a destination wedding than eloping. Still, its your wedding and your reception. If you'd like the girls to dress in their dresses I don't think they'd be upset with your request. Getting use of the dresses twice is great.

I don't think what you described is "eloping."
To elope, most literally, merely means to run away. More specifically, elopement is often used to refer to a marriage conducted in sudden and secretive fashion, usually involving hurried flight away from one's place of residence.
Today the term is colloquially used for any hasty marriage or one performed away from home with few (if any) guests. Some couples find it romantic, for instance, to "elope" to Las Vegas, Nevada and be married by an Elvis impersonator there.

You're NOT ELOPING. You're having a small (destination?) wedding and a large reception. Eloping means sneaking away in secret and NOT taking your family with you.

Where what you like.
But what's odd is that you are NOT eloping. You have planned a small, family wedding. Considering that, it might be inappropriate for you to throw a party after you come back.

Of course it will - they will have all missed the wedding! Just wear nice regular clothes. It would just be too strange to have you in a wedding dress!

It's YOUR day! Do whatever you want! As long as everyone has fun who cares. Tell the bridesmaids that they have to wear the dresses twice. The bride is the boss!
