I would like to hear about the experiences of other partner families.....those who applied, were chosen, and worked along side this organization for your home. What was rewarding and what was frustrating during the process?

I've worked with Habitat in my community.
And, it's been my experience, that the recipient family not only puts "sweat equity" into their new home (I mean a LOT of hrs)-
They also have to qualify with decent credit, for a modest loan.

The good will of neighbors to help reduce the amount of that loan, by helping build the house is a good example of "community".

I've seen frustrating situations during the building of the house.
But, check with ANYONE who has a house built! The process can really pull you in many directions - all unexpected! Then, factor in volunteers in place of paid pros. It's only natural that there will be surprises.

The best reaction I've seen was from the family who had endured the most unexpected changes! They had a family meeting, decided to keep their sense of humor and gratitude,
and weathered it beautifully!

You and your family already had a HOME. Now you have a HOUSE to put it in! Best to you!

The frustration I found was to be for all the hard workers.... then someone who simply chose to be poor got a new home for pounding a few nails. Its sad... They should have to pay for it like the rest of us, but out society is based on giving to the poor so they can continue to do nothing.
