Or is there a chance that it is all a misinterpretation?

It takes a second to come up...then shows a commercial then the story. Also, is it kidnapping if the guy is the father of the child?

It is not illegal to take your son to your country. I dont know if he did abduct the ex girlfriend, but what about the "runaway bride" didnt she say she was being abducted...but really went on her own. I just wonder if she called hurriedly and gave her parents the wrong impression so they wouldnt be mad at her for leaving...it is hard if you have racist parents. But I could be completely wrong.

They recently released that they found them outside of New Mexico, but would not release any further info at this time.

Of course, all facts can be misinterpreted. The media has a job, to get the public to buy their brand of trash.

Mendi, you are wrong. It is kidnapping to take the child out of the country from the other parent without either that parent's permission or specific court approval.
That goes for both the mom and dad.
If her boyfriend is from Mexico and is the father of the child, and if she and the child were 'being forced to go to Mexico' and if the boyfriend is missing, then since the spouse/significant other is statistically the most likely suspect in any event, I would consider it a good likelihood, although not a certainty that she and the child were abducted by the boyfriend. I would only wonder if she were still alive. While the Mexican border officers would not question a Mexican national returning with his 18 month old son, a struggling adult female might be harder to explain.

1) I do not know many people who travel with an ex lover, much less to a completely different country.
2) If I were leaving willingly I would notify friends, relatives, my workplace BEFORE I left.
3) People who go of their own volition do not call home hysterical because they are being taken to Mexico.
4) If I were going willing, I would not say I was being taken at all. I would say I was "going to Mexico, insert reason why here. I didn't mean to worry you mom/dad/whoever. "
5) Yes, it is possible to kidnap a child, even your own. Anyone who has been through this with a possessive ex mate can tell you this.
