Today I received some birthcontrol from my doctor called trivora. I've never used birthcontrol before but wanted to give it a try since I'm engaged and don't want a baby since I'm working on becoming a nurse. I should be starting my period in the next 3-5 days. I was wondering when do I take my pills? The doctor had told me something like, "go ahead and take them this sunday" and i told her, "even if i start my period?" and she said yes. But the part that confuses me is she told me if I start my period later, like next week, to wait till the FOLLOWING sunday. On the instructions, it says to take the sunday AFTER your period. I'm just confused now. I wanted to call and ask but the clinic is closed. My friend that's on birthcontrol told me to take it this sunday. I have the 28 pill pack. Also, is there a time where you don't take the pills. I mean, let's say I've been on the pill and then I start, am I supposed to still take them when I'm on my period or not. Sorry, I'm just confused.

Just take it on sunday like the doc said. Even if you have your period. It doesnt matter. Just keep taking it. You will probably still get your period because it can take a while for the BC to start to regulate you. But taking it this sunday and then getting your period is not going to effect anything. And once you start a pack, dont stop until you get to the pills that are just sugar pills. They are just rememinder pills, they have no medicine in them. But you can still take them. After this month everthing will be on more of a schedule and you wont have to worry about it as much. Just make sure that you take the pill at about the same time everyday and dont smoke and be aware that if you are taking other meds that it can make your BC not work. Good luck! Start on sunday!

If your period starts between now and Sunday 9/24, start them on Sunday. If it doesn't start until sometime the following week, start on Sunday 10/01.
You should try to take them around the same time every day.
The first 21 pills have hormones in them that fool your body into thinking it is pregnant, so your period this week may be really short - don't panic.
Those first 21 pills are usually a variation of the same color - green, lighter green, and really light green (or blues) and the last seven are a totally different color - my doc told me that those last seven don't have any hormones in them, they are just a reminder to keep you in the habit of taking one every day.
So yes, you will take a pill when you are on your period - you will take one every day.
Hope this helps.

Start on the first day of your period where it says start on the pack, or day1. Take one a day. By the time your period comes, it should be past the 21st day of your cycle. Keep on taking one a day until finished. Start on a new pack as soon as the old one is done, on day one again
