The catholic church's position against homosexuality has probably driven many men into the celibate priesthood - which in turn opens them to temptation by choir boys. Sad isn't it? A vicious circle.

You know I think that Satan is a lot craftier than we give him credit for. He knows that if he wants to take out a bunch of believers and breed hate in their hearts, he should "go big or go home"! That's what he's doing. He's attacking from the top and it trickles right on down through Christian hearts breeding hate and contempt. The crime should be punished, but why nourish the malice in your hearts. Why not let criminals be dealt with and go on with your lives??
Like I said in other posts, the reading I've done with regard to child molestation prove that the numbers are staggering. The number of clergy accused of abuse is very low compared to the number of children abused by fathers, brothers, uncles, cousins, teachers, bus drivers, counselors, doctors, coaches, foster parents, etc...... But, because there is such a hatred for the Catholic Church, I think that people just live to condemn. What this says to me is "who cares if an older brother sodomizes a 4 year old little brother"? Let's ignore those situations so that we have time to go after the clergy so that we can fill every other Christian's heart with hate.

Society as a whole is still very homophobic.The priests molesting the altar boys got more press because it was more "shocking", especially when you take into consideration how vehemently the Catholic Church has condemned gay people.But plenty of priests molested girls,too.You just don't hear about it as much, because it's not as shocking, and on some level, expected and tolerated.

It's called "civilization".
By creating societies that depend upon authority figures to ensure the importation of resources, we create a downhill authority/violence structure which encourages the 'use' of 'resources'. When people are considered resources, authority figures feel they have the mandate to abuse people who are weaker than they are so they can feel higher up the power ladder than they otherwise would be.
The violence is only allowed to go downhill.

we should pray for priest because they are tempted even greater by satan since they are servants of God> Pray for them, for they have dedicated their lives to helping others> why do you pick on priests...aren't strippers, pimps,etc. so much worse?
