I have studied Islam, and it is truely a religion of peace. The radical Islamist terrorists that people portray all Muslims as are not true followers of Islam. Judging Muslims by their actions is like judging all of Christianity by the actions of the KKK. People may say: "what are they doing to fight terrorism?" Consider the fact that many live in countries where they would be killed for speaking out against Islamists, and those that enjoy freedom do protest, there was recently a march for peace in Washington organized by Muslims. Also, people are very quick to point out the violence in the Qu'aran, do you so quickly forget the way that Moses murdered anyone worshipping false idols? The Bible is also full of violence. And, just to inform you, that moon god argument accomplishes nothing, it only makes you look childish and immature. If that's the only argument you have NOBODY is going to take you seriously.

Cecil: Jihad is not holy war, it is supposed to be a quest for self-betterment, the radical Islamists have twisted its meaning.

Yes, he who knows little criticizes; he who knows well admires. We even admire the atom when we know well about it.
Therefore, it is very necessary for us to learn to know well our own self, in order that we can love and respect all other selves.

I don't know enough about it, but like most we judge Muslims by the actions of the radicals. But, your own statements are what concern me, you say in many countries if someone speaks up against the islamist, they would be killed. To me this shows that the violence of the religion is not just a fringe group, but heavily ingrained in the culture and the society.
Our basic beliefs in America are that we should tolerate all religions, Muslims especially in their own countries do not believe in tolerating other religions.

I've done my best to find a reason to believe that Islam is not a religion of hate. When the media paints them as such, I can't help but think, "I'm getting a biased view, I'd better find out what their holy book says. Get it straight from the mouth of their revealed truth."
So I sat down with a concordance of the three interpretations of the quran into english. And I found out that there are plenty of peace-loving, gentle muslims in the world, and that according to their own holy book, they are worthless in the eyes of allah because they do not stand ready to enforce conversion, jizya, or death.
So the peaceful muslims are hypocrites and the violent muslims are terrorists.
It's really a no win religion.

Mostly because what is shown by the media is Islamic terrorists doing terrible things. The millions of Islam's peaceful followers are too boring and don't ever make the news. Blood and violence makes the news. If that's all you see of Islam, that pretty much sets your opinion.
The radical extremists give everyone else a bad name. It's quite sad, and more than a bit self-defeating. We should be enlisting the rest of Islam against the terrorists, not making them angry at us.

I'm sorry, it must be really annoying for you if you are a peaceful muslim person. For me the first thing time I actually properly thought about muslims was on 11th September 2001 (I was quite young at the time) so I got quite a bad initial impression. As I live in London, I was very frightened too by the London attacks, and the muslim friends I have, have told me that in their communities, the people are becoming more angrey and are begining to support terrorism against us a little more. It is hard for me as a British person, to see people we have welcomed into our country, then attack us so cruelly, despite us providing them with education, homes and jobs. Even though logic tells me that not all muslims are bad, my intuition and fear makes me weary of Islam and muslim people I do not know well. I know thats harsh, but I'm just trying to be completely honest. Its sad our community has got into this state isnt it?

i agree that Islam has been hijacked by extremists and the lot shouldnt be blamed or represented for others actions. however, that street goes both ways. i constantly see on here and hear from other muslims, that they think western women are nothing but a bunch of God-less, easy, sexually charged women who fall into depression if they dont lose their virginity by the time they're16 yrs old. not all western women are sluts and not all muslims are terrorists.

The moon God?
lol...
Is this the argument that states "Allah" means "Moon" or something close to that?
Yeah, that argument's kinda overplayed.
As to why people insult Islam when they know so little about it...
The media.
The propaganda.
The countless websites based on b u l l s h i t.
The ignorance in the hearts of people.
The fear that perhaps we're not evil but if they admit that, they admit that the war in Iraq and Palestine is not legit or logical by any stretch of the imagination.
The events like 9/11.
The lack of compassion for anything that's different.

People are angry right now because of all the terrorism. That's all. It's not the religion that people really hate. They just don't understand is all.
Did you ever hear that a rotten apple spoils the bunch?
People are coming around though. Many Americans are converting to Islam.

Why do people insult Christianity in this venue when they really know so little about it?
I hear you, and you're right. The problem is between the clash of civilizations, it is likely easy for the uneducated to marginalize Islam in the way you describe.

Violence is part of life whether we like it or not, so of course its going to be mentioned in the holy books, also I personally believe these books to be inspired partially, but mostly man made. We couldn't possibly know all of what God knows. Basically the people who make these judgments are uneducated and don't care to get educated, they just need something or someone to hate to fill the void within themselves. They are lost. :)
