Actually, as long as you enter the country legally and marry before your tourist visa expires(otherwise there's some very hefty fines attached to your application costs), you will have no problems getting your green card. A K-1 fiance visa is another way, but you still have to complete the same application (petition to adjust status) and wait the same amount of time. The one nice thing is that while your application is in process, you are granted permission to work. You will not be allowed to leave the US while the application is in process, however, without the permission of the INS (emergency only!!). If you do leave, you application is null/void and you have to start over again. You will have to go through an interview process to prove the validity of your marriage, so make sure it's for real. New security measures since 9-11 make the whole process more difficult and very time consuming. It can take 1-2 years to complete. Best of luck!

It can be risky to enter the US with the plan of marrying while you are here on a tourist visa. It might work, or it might not. The reason we have such a problem with Mexican illegals is because the INS is a bunch of stupid, unpredictable jerks who do crazy things.
The correct way to marry a US citizen is for HER to file for a K-1 fiancee visa for you. Do not marry before she gets it. Do not come to the US before she gets it.
It takes several months to get the K-1 visa. Then you are allowed to come, and you have to marry within 90 days. She files the report telling the INS you are married, then after about two years, you get work papers. During that two years, you cannot go home to UK without special permission, for such things as a family death in UK.
If you marry in UK then file it can take up to two years to get the entry papers.
Because the INS is so ornery, it is recommended to hire a good immigration attorney to help you with this.

I married my English wife 25 years ago, all she had to get was a Non Resident Alien Card (green card) via the American Embassy. A green card has been ok for the past 25 years. You will need to apply for a Social Security Number if you plan to get a job in the US once you get your green card, your girlfriend could help you this, you just have to go to the Social Security Office where you will be living. Chow.

Afraid it is not so user-friendly as that .... the citizen will ought to petition him/her ... historic past exams would be made, which will show that he/she grew to become into in this united states of america illegally to start up with .... he/she will in all probability be allowed to stay interior the country on a similar time as the historic past investigations have been performed, yet he/she could no longer be allowed a eco-friendly card on the tip of it ... ultimate to work out an lawyer approximately concerns like that ....

retired is correct. A fiancee visa is the quickest way to get immigration status. It's actually pretty simple and quick (just a few months, assuming your relationship is genuine). Contact an immigration attorney who has experience with this type of application.

after you got married you need to go back to your home country and wait for your k3 visa(ur us spouse must file the petition).
around some month you get ur k3 visa that allows you to enter the us legally. then also some month later you get the gc with conditions .
you can work with the k3 if you applied for a work permission aswell ...if not you have to wait till u get ur gc.

Since you are British you should have no problem. Simply marry the girl and apply for this stuff.
