Been down this road before... Dad bought an LS... and aside from the weak transmission and poor performance/mileage I guess we could say at least the seats were comfortable.

If your set on a Lincoln... Get a Continental. Dad traded his LS for one and loves it! gets 27MPG, has the COBRA 4.6 V8 (instead of the wimpy 3.9) Oh, unlike every other Ford product I have owned or driven... this one is.... ummm. unbelievably reliable His 2000 has 257,000 miles on it. No rust, Tranny is solid, Motor is strong as an ox, AC is cold, No Idiot lights on, and runs like it was stolen. Everything is original

Starts every time. Traction control is unbelievable. the car is VERY quiet (except when you have your foot in the go pedal) stops fast handles well and is INSANELY COMFORTABLE! Gotta love the trunk you can throw FOUR golf bags and two dead bodies in.

Lincoln is the luxury brand of Ford, and has a good record for reliability. One advantage of buying from a private owner is that most Lincoln owners are older people, and therefore drive the car more gently than younger drivers. So a 2001 Lincoln Town Car is likely to be in better shape than the same year Ford Crown Victoria.

However, a private seller isn't going to give you any kind of warranty, so it's a good idea to have a mechanic check the car out beforehand.

I'm gonna probably be thumbed down for this answer but here is the facts. These cars are good cars.. I love driving them as they are one of the best FLM cars around... You will loose a little in a year or two as the car normally deprechiates... Now why I'm gonna be thummed down for.... If you got the funds, it's a great car, but the v-8s have a habit of needing every coil pack changed sooner or later due to oil getting on them and causing weird things.. these cars are also bad for electrical issues. If your dad kept it up mechanically, it could be a wise investment.. just be ready for some expensive repair bills due to that Lincoln name and the fact the engine is a rare one (sharing with the T-bird and Jaguar)

Licoln has a pretty good reputation for luxury...but tha LS I wouldnt trust. Friend of mine bought a new one and about a year later tha transmission went out. Warranty covered it but Ive heard bad things about tha LS. Beautiful car though. :(

Consider another car...It cost over $2500.00 just to replace the
front "struts", and rear shocks...Say if even one rear shock goes bad the left side of the Lincoln will almost be on the ground...
Go Cadillac, or Mercedes, or better yet "Lexus" No lincolns please..Rody
