I also have had the occassion of meeting a person over the net . And, as the meeting turned-out it was a very pleasant experience for myself and the lady- friend I met. However, even with my being a "man"... I felt the need to take the neccessary precautions while leading -up to the very day of our actual meeting ( in person). In-fact we both did . I would suggest the same for anyone that has plans or interest to meet in person with someone from the net . This advice especially goes -out to the women .
My net friend & I chatted, e-mailed, eventually exchanged numbers & called one another for 5 months before actually deciding to meet in person. We also chatted on "web-cam" a lot as well.
I also agree with some of the other advice given here. Like for instance, should you ulimately decide on an actual person to person meet; do be sure to either bring a friend along and, also let your family members know of yor plans & whereabouts... Staying in public -view isn't a bad advice either .

Meet them at a Starbucks. Have a friend show up a few minutes later, giving you guys a while to break the ice. Friend shows up (unexpectedly, of course), sits and talks with you two and is able to check the guy out (second opinions are priceless). If you give a prearranged signal that you want to get the heck away from the creep, you leave with your friend. If friend signals a thumbs up, then you're on your own and free to do whatever two consenting adults wish to do.
NEVER go alone, never give your address or traceable phone number. I wouldn't even give my last name until several "meetings" later. There are some well disguised freak jobs out there. Be careful and good luck.

This depends on your age. If you are under 18, I would not recommend. If you are over 18 then meet up if the person is local. Just make sure you let people know where you are going to be and under no circumstances should you meet in a secluded area. All the best..

if you are going to meet the person, please make sure you do it late morning or early afternoon... NEVER EVER MEET ANYBODY FROM THE INTERNET IN THE EVENING... its got far to many complications attached to it.. go for brunch, or coffee and make sure you have something to do or somewhere to go afterwards... meet in a public place which is convenient to both parties and just relax and have a good conversation...
make sure you're safe at all times...

Yes. Why not? Make sure it is a crowded public place, just in case :)
