The first step to choosing your colour scheme is to decide what you like. Are you most comfortable with the ultra-modern, rustic, or retro style? Once you've chosen the style, the colour choices will start narrowing themselves down.
Your likes and dislikes have to play a major part in your colour choices. There are really no "out" colours anymore - if you look through design or decor magazines you will see almost every colour of the rainbow used in one way or another. The key is to use whatever colours you select in a tasteful and appealing way.
You will want to have a nice contrast between your flooring and your cabinetry, and again between your cabinetry and your counter tops. The back-splash should add visual interest and reflect the style of the room. The wall colour should act as a backdrop to the other elements in the room (cabinetry, flooring, counters...) and not fight with them for attention. A sure-fire option is light wood cabinetry, medium-dark counters, and a back splash that combines the light and dark shades -- if you follow this idea you can incorporate any style or colours that you like and it will work. Good luck!

You need to think of your own stlye!!! What do you like, country? cows and pigs? Modern, strait lines and shiny stuff? My personal choice is Old world!! lol, I have white floors, white counters, and oak cupboards. I painted my walls a dark brick red(as the white of everything else stands out) I have fat chef things everywhere. I wish I had Mahogany floors in there! It would look even better! I have wood floors everywhere else in my house!
Think of what apeals to YOU,then look at some magazines and find a theam that will work. Or Yahoo search under "photos" for pictures of kitchens in the colors you like. You have a imagination, just gotta remember how to use it,thats all! It's easy. Make it a room you LOVE to be in! I wish I could see it,as I love decorating! Good Luck!

My husband is a painter and he is always telling me about the customers homes he's in. He works in the high end homes where the house is never under a million. Most of the home he is doing want "earth tones" [beige, brown, orange, tan]. Home Depot has some great sample paints that you could look at and decide from there. They even have a computer that you can you to see what colors will match when you pick the base color. I have a browny orange walls with creamy cupboards and trim. Good luck.

Rich, popping colors are in. I just painted my kitchen a very bright kind of pea green and used black as the accent color for things like he coffee pot, containers etc. Modern is the newest styles in kitchen's right now. Rich colors in matte finishes paired with black or stainless steel accessories. I saw the most beautiful kitchen the other day in a magizine. The walls were painted a deep smoky gray and then they accented that with red curtains and counter accessories and also black accessories like a wroght iron dish pan, a black kitchen table with red seat cushions. It was very dramatic and beautiful. If that would be to much dark for you. Probably subsituting the black for white would make it feel lighter. I hope this helped you.

With mahogany, I bet light light mint green would be pretty. Darker emerald green/red plaid curtains and seats in the lounge area.
Red accessories - pots, pans - hanging somewhere.

Thats really matter of opinion. Personally, I like burgundy and cream. Burgundy being on the top half of the walls, on the bottom, I like cream bead board with crown moldings half-way. Have fun!

Just decide what you like. You're the one who will have to live with it, not some fashion designer in Paris or Los Angeles.
Be creative, and choose something that makes you happy. Whatever is "in" this year will be "out" next year, so don't worry about it.

Either white cabinets with black countertops and black tile floor with white or black appliances. Black fridges are very popular. Or you could go with cherry cabinets or light oak. Earthy tones are very popular and you'll get a warm feeling.

I suggest you look at displays in remodelling shops and see what you like best. Marble countertops and backsplashes are very "in" these days, if you like that kind of thing and can afford it. Enjoy!
