I would try a) placing them out of access
b) keeping litter box clean (natural inclination to want to play in the sand)
c) place aluminum foil or other noisy paper over soil until the cats learn not to go in the plant
d) stop by PetCo or other comparable pet supply store, they have a variety of sprays and deterrants including objects that emit a noise at a frequency we can't hear when the cats get close.
Good luck!

I've said it in here before. Plants and cats don't mix. If you love the cat get rid of the plants. To many are poison to a cat.

you really cant stop him from playing with the plant..maybe use a spray bottle with water, spray him when you see him around the plants, most cats hate water..if you have a problem with the cat going potty in the plants, you can put down small rocks and gravel on the soil..cats dont like to walk in them,,good luck

Buy a pot of cat grass or catnip for your cat--nibbling green stuff is natural for them. A spray bottle filled with water is good for keeping the cat away from your plants until he learns which ones belong to you. Keep your plants and the cat's plant separate (maybe put the cat plant on his favorite windowsill or in his sunny napping spot), or he'll get confused.

Cats need grass or plants to nibble because it helps them digest.
Cat grass or catnip does help, by giving them some greens to chew on. that way they have something to chew on. Spray the plants you don't want them to chew with vinegar.
If it's a small plant, try putting it in a decorative birdcage. That's what I did to keep my cats from chewing on and playing with a bamboo plant I have.

Spray the pots with lemon scents. Cats don't like the smell of lemons.

There are sprays that deter them. Both those that taste bad and others that smell bad. Try both and see which works best. Get them an pet stores.
