I was on a bicycle after class and this woman hit me with her van, sending me to the hospital with a broken collar bone and a torn ACL in my left knee. She never tried to find out if I was o.k. and no attorneys won't take my case. Is it a bad idea to write to this woman and simply ask her if she even cares that she could have killed me?

Surely someone will take your case. Keep asking till you get results.

It's not a good idea.

For one thing, I can pretty much guarantee she feels really bad and guilty about it. If all you want to do is make her feel more miserable, what's the point? It doesn't help you any.

For another... I'm pretty sure an attorney would advise you not to contact this woman. As someone else already pointed out, the reason she hasn't contacted you may be because she's gotten similar advice from her insurance company.

If no attorney will take your case, then I strongly suspect there's something you're leaving out. Did they find you to be at fault?

I you do want to write her, write with a friendly tone. Tell her how your rehab is going, and say that your life has been messed up, but the doctors say you'll make a full recovery, and you just wanted to let her know. That's much more likely to lead to positive results than a letter ripping her to shreds.

Do you know who it is? Because if it's a hit-and-run, a lawyer can't help you. That's when you have to rely on the cops.

I'm a little confused as to why an attorney won't take your case. Are you leaving anything out of the story? That sounds like an easy win to me.

I can't believe there are no ambulance chasing lawyers willing to take your case. Those guys will take anything. And from what you say you actually have a good case--of course it is possible it was your own stupid fault.

Seriously, with those type of injuries call up some more lawyers--unless you are leaving out some pretty important details (and probably even if you are)--you can get a lawyer.

Writing to her will achieve nothing--and might even be counter-productive.

Don't contact the woman yourself, have your parents or some adult do it. Frankly, I don't know why an attorney won't take your case, even if it was your fault, and I'm not saying it is, a person must have their vehicle under control at all times.

Seems to be more to this story.
I don't understand why an attorney wouldn't take the case.
Was there a police report filed?
I'm sorry for your pain and hospitalisation and yes I probably would send her a short note.
I wouldn't be able to help myself, it would be somewhat sarcastic

Dear mam,
thank you so much for your kind concern as to my condition when you put me in the hospital.
I hope you suffered no loss or inconvenience....

You get the idea.

Many attorneys would advise this woman NOT to contact you. Her insurance company should be taking care of it. Was there a police report done? I would think so. You should be able to get a copy of it to keep for your records.
What she did caused a lot of pain for you, but I don't think it's a good idea to contact her.
If you don't hear from her insurance company soon, keep trying to get your own attorney. She needs to be responsible for what she did.

I find it hard to believe that an ambulance chaser hasn't found YOU yet. Meanwhile, don't write the letter, it could be brought up as a form of harassment IF you ever do find an attorney and file suit.

And why won't attorneys take your case? Is there something else you are leaving out? My first thought was no you shouldn't contact that person. But, I think you should to at least get your medical expenses back. I wish you luck.

That is perplexing to me that an attorney will not accept the case. Is there more to the story, like she was uninsured? In our state, that is an offense in and of itself. Who was in the wrong? Either you are not presenting it to us or to the attorney correctly, or you have not seen an attorney who is hungry enough.
