LAZINESS and STUPIDITY and SELFISHNESS.
Have a friend who is one of these people.Complains about the dog to NO END but will do NOTHING to correct the behavior she moans about.
When I point out that it only takes a few minutes several times a day for a few weeks she goes into this long tirade about how stressed she is with work, kids schedules and helping her boyfriend get ahead in life.SHE JUST HAS'NT THE TIME!
When I say what are you doing right now?She answers talking to you while smoking a cigarette? Then I ask-What's the dog doing?
She answers-The dog jumped the fence and left a long time ago. Will come back when it's ready.
Now how long do you think it'll be before she's on the phone crying that dog got hit by a car and all she's spent in vet bills is down the drain or that the dog bit someone and they're liable?
I hope it never happens cos I've made up my mind that if it ever does I'm not going to listen to her drama.I plan to tell her off ROYALY.

Too many people buy pets as acsessories, they don't really reseach - breeds compatable to their lifestyle, training, nutrition and behavior. To them its like a purse or a lawn ornament, its just ment to acsessorize them, and thats all that matters.

Alot of people just don't have time any more, working two jobs, dealing with the kids, dinner, cleaning the house, and jugling after school activities, they find little time for their pets - let alone their own piece of mind.

My opion of course........

I believe every dog needs to have the basics and people who get a dog should make sure they can provide that for them and make time for that animal. If they can't they don't need a pet, they can get that pretty purse or that lawn ornament instead.

After 24 years of working w/k9's & the public;
I have found that only the serious PET OWNERS
train their dogs & really care about them.
The others see them as just a dog, throw outside,feed/water-never spend any time with them, but sure no how to complain.

there is nothing cuter than a little puppy. In many homes both adults work. When they go home after a long day at work
and a long commute they don't want to deal with training a
active puppy. I think their mistake was getting the dog in the
first place. Most of us find puppies so appealing. It is later that
we face reality. Dogs require attention and deserve love. Please think seriously before bringing one home.

I was just talking about this. One of my old roommates had a dog who she said did not want trained. I even offered to take the dog to classes if she would pay for it. It didn't work!
He got on top of the table and finished our food for us, ate an entire thing of cupcakes with the tin foil still on them. Chewed up the window blinds, ate my halloween decorations. chewed up a girls stereo and on and on. He was awful, but I realize now he was doing these things on purpose because he would get attention when he did bad things, but when he was good his mommy was never home and none of us noticed.
I even took him to the dog park to take out some energy it just didn't work.
She eventually gave him up, hopefully he is doing better now!
And I think it should be mandatory for you to teach your pets manners or you don't get the dog!

I believe most of it is just ignorance. They just don't know. I run into so many people that are doing so many things wrong, even the simplest thing like using the correct lease or collar. We need to educate the public to not only train their pup but how important a good diet is. Anyway it boils down to education.

The more important question is:

Why do so many parents neglect to teach their children even the most basic manners?

People intend to teach their pets manners, but they spoil them just like kids. A dog is a dog of course you can love your dog but you have train it to properly function around others.

I guess they don't want to spend allot of time working with the animal but in the long run they end up with a pain in butt dog that takes up more of their time than they would've spent just training their dog.

Why would you buy a pet that you don't want?!

Good question..many people are too lazy to take the time to train, others have no idea how to train, others are shown how but refuse to follow through, many are inconsistant with their training practices these are just a few reasons.
