Allergies are caused by dander (shed skin cells) and dried cat spit, from when they clean themselves.
Get a long haired cat. It's not the fur that is causing the problems. Long fur holds the skin cells on the cat and less of them get airborne.
Hubby doesn't groom the cat, ever, and the cat doesn't sleep in your room. If hubby pets the cat, have him wash his hands immediately after. Tell him not to touch his face before he washes his hands.
Good for you not falling for the "hypoallergenic" cats. It hasn't been proven.

As a rule no cat is hypoallergenic, but the closest you are going to come is a hairless cat called a spynx. Allergens come from cat saliva which is caught in the hairs when they lick themselves the hairs inturn are shed. The spynx however does not shed. Since your husband has reacted to a spynx. Try another animal.

Suprisingly enough, persians, although long haired, do not have much cat dander, which is what causes cat allergies to begin with.
They can be expensive, but not 3500, more like 500. I have even seen persian kittens for 50.
Check out some ads, make sure they are pure bread persians, and then take your husband with you to look at them. Spend at least a half an hour in contact with the cat and see if he reacts before purchasing.
My grandmother is horribly allergic to cats but has three persians without a problem!

I think the hairless cat (is that the one you already had?) is supposed to be better for that but remember it isnt the hair that causes reactions it is the dander. I mean hair everywhere will bother anybody but I am talking allergies. I guess you could just get him an allergy medicine and buy a Dyson to keep your house really clean as well as a Ionic Breeze and still not have spent $3500. Then you can have any kind of cat.

People don't realize that you can adjust to cat dander, and no longer be allergic. Get a short-hair, it helps.
And it helps to build your immune system by eating right.

Get them as kittens. I am allergic to cats and I have no problems with my 2. I asked about it, and I was told that I was use to them and I was tolerant to what ever I was allergic to as they grew older. If I go to my friend's house, I plug up, because of their cat.

Visit the animal shelter, and see which cats don't bother you.
You're allergic to an antigen in feline saliva, and not all cats secrete this. You just have to try cats, until you find a non-secreter. I have three
