why do most people laugh when someone passes gas? It actually can be quite repulsive .?

Actually it is a "natual" body function. Eveyone does,at times, but it can STINK!! What makes us laugh?

it's startling to hear it out loud.......people are naturally embarrassed, and the dignified do their level best to "contain" it as long as they can -- most would be mortified to cut loose in public. thus, when one does "toot" it seems so brave and so bold (and later so nauseating) that one has to not only admire this social taboo, but also giggle in relief, there but for the grace of god, go i.........lol

I have often wondered the same thing. I think the laughter comes from embarrassment to be honest. The farter laughs because he's embarrassed, and the other people laugh because they are embarrassed for the farter.

because we are 'trained' not to laugh at such nonsense.

I usually don't laugh unless it makes a really funny noise, or if it's done somewhere quiet like in a lecture hall or church. I laugh at a lot of things.

If you really think about the action of expelling wind through your bottom, the thought can be quite humorous. If you're thinking about it in that certain light. I, myself, can control the laughter, but I do find myself sometimes making humorous thoughts.
