Yes, you can purchase rifles, pistols, shotguns etc online...The person/dealer selling you the firearm must send it to a FFL dealer who will then pass the firearm on to you after the FBI instant check...
These are the two best online sites to find firearms for sale IMHO..Between the two they have over 50,000 up for sale every day....

Yes....you can order and buy rifles, pistols, shotgun and even machine guns online. As some others have pointed out, you can have them shipped to your local dealer that has a Federal Firearms License (FFL). He will charge you a fee, usually $15-$30, some will charge more. Class 3 (machine guns) FFL holders will charge more usually $50-$200.
Curio & Relics (C&R) FFL's are available to individuals for a fee of $30 for 3 years. You must submit your finger prints and pass a back ground check in order for the license to be approved. This allows you to buys firearms and have them shipped directly to you if the firearms are at least 50 years old or listed on the ATF's C&R list. Many vendors will give you wholesale prices if you hold a C&R FFL making it well worth the $30 fee.

Bound's hubby here:
Yes, you can order rifles, shotguns, and pistols on-line. HOWEVER, you must take delivery of the firearm at a Federal Firearms Licensed dealer in your state.
For service rifles, you can check out Springfield Armory (link below). For virtually all types of firearms, try Davidson's Gallery of Guns (link below).

There are lots of sites you can buy rifles from although most of them, possibly all, require that you have them shipped to a licensed firearms dealer and pick it up from them. Your best bet would be to google the make and model you're interested in.

No you can't. You can try but you will become very popular with the ATF. I'm sure they'd have all sortsa questions for you.
