According to what little scienfic studies there are, St. John's Wort may lead to unpleasant side effects in children such as confusion, dizziness, sleepiness, etc. It also interacts with other herbs and medicines so be careful.

I don't think children rank when it comes to medical research. Furthermore, treatments that don't reap huge profits are not adequately researched. Without a double-blind placebo controlled study using children, you can not evaluate the safety of any medication. Even with such a study, often enough it turns out that a medicine is not safe. So it is proceed at your own risk with any medication for children. Isn't there a new warning label for anti-depressants as of this week. That might push me into trying something else first.

I wouldn't risk it. Put the child in talk therapy, and leave the antidepressants out of the picture--herbs included. There are many psychoactive meds that don't trigger suicidality in children the way antidepressants can... If you must use hebal remedies, try gotu-kola, ginko biloba and siberian ginseng...

Would'nt be experimenting with my kids on any advice given here.Ask the chemist or some other medical worker.Perhaps on the label is advice.
