Heavens no, I spent many expensive years learning our crazy British spelling and I'm not giving it up for all the ink in Whitehall!

No, I don't think so. It doesn't really matter if we spell things differently, and anyway language is a constantly evolving thing. So if we all decided to start spelling things the same way again chances are that within a few generations we'd end up right back to where we are now, with more differences than we can count.
(And American spelling doesn't always use fewer letters: Skillful vs. Skilful, for instance.)

Contrary to one or two of the people above, the American English IS phonetic i.e. it is spelled the way it is spoken. Yes, some words are different to ours, for instance on cars WE have a bonnet, a boot and bumpers, while THEY have a hood, a trunk and fenders.
Even if we did adopt American English, there are those in the UK who can't even spell their own language properly let alone another country's.
Have a look at the ink below to find out more. Have a nice day. Missing you already!!!

no because they cannot spell correctly. niether can I at this time of night but no I do not wish to have anything to do with u.s.a. I lived there forty years ago. Now here the young girls look like the black hookers did. Smart eh. Now they all wear burbury there. They just mess everyone up, profit, turn it around the way it should be and give themselves a pat on the back. If you would like to save time, think of something to do to fill it, and ink, why worry about ink. Is there a bloody ink shortage too.

NO WAY!!
It also uses a lot less brain cells - not that I'm implying anything here - but if you want to keep the people under the thumb of the government, the easiest way to do it is to make damn sure they receive little or no education! 'Dumbing' things down - spellings, for example - is an excellent first step in that process...!
(Turning schools into places where students spend more time fearing for their lives or taking drugs is a very good SECOND step ... amazingly, America seems to have completed both of those steps ... so what's next?)

Use what ever offical spelling you want. British or American. Me, I use a mixture, because I am from Canada, but go to school in Idaho.
