Society sets the standard using many different avenues including religious beliefs and common sense.

Monogamy is what the majority feel is moral. The Polygamists would disagree. So I would say what the majority wants it gets.

You can't focus on the relationship of parents. You have to see how the relationship affects the progeny. The KISS principle is not so far fetched. Once you start introducing alternate female or male parents you are also introducing competition and jealousy. These things while healthy to a young child are introduced to much and too early in a child's upbringing. The 2 person relationship has survived the test of time. It is not so far fetched to trust it.

God sets the standard of morality because he created us. He made us male and female and the pattern for human sexual relationships is that a man will grow up and leave his father and mother and join with his wife so that the two will become one flesh: inseperable, lifelong, intimate partners.

Morals are just simply rules that have been agreed upon by many, in order to avoid social disaster. We don't kill people because of the pain and loss it brings about in the living (but ultimately killing is wrong because you end the life of someone, and more than likely, they had planned to keep on living for a good long while). We don't steel because of the loss it brings to the owner. They may have worked very hard to acquire the item stolen. We don't "cheat" on our partners because of the pain it brings to them, they feel rejected and have a generally lower felling of self worth.

Lately, I (and most likely others) have witnessed a decline in morality in our modern day society. I think people have forgotten why the moral codes exist and see them as a nuisance, something between them and their potential feelings a instant gratification.

If morality continues to degrade, we will have put in place a jaded, cynical, hopeless society for our children to inherit.

I just want to say this though, stop believing in god, start believing in yourselves. The concept of god was put in place out of convenience, to make it easier to explain our world. We have science and rational thought to aid us in making sense of our world and existence now, use it.

God set the standards. It is man who choose to disregard the truth. God put out the 10 commandments to protect us, not to stop us from doing things. Why is there so much sexual diseases in the world. If everyone had a monogamy relationship there would not be a rampant diseases out there.

Whoever's in charge. And that's been mostly Xtians since the time of Constantine. Monogamy is moral because they say it is. Hey, the mormons thought polygyny was moral, and that got banned because it pissed of the rest of the xtians.

Society. Our society decided that monogamy was the only way to go. Polygamy was made illegal. I'm sure if other cultures &/or religions had their way in the beginning, it would have been different. But, here, majority rules (or so we think).
