Some have traced the Christmas tree back at least as far as the Prophet Jeremiah who wrote the book Jeremiah in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). Opposition to the Christmas tree was strong in past centuries. The early Christian Church in the third century strictly prohibited the decoration of their houses with evergreen boughs. The decorated Christmas tree only caught on in the mid-19th century. Modern-day opposition continues: some condemn the Christmas tree because they believe it to be a Christian symbol; others condemn it because they believe -- incorrectly -- that the custom of cutting down a tree, erecting it in the home and decorating it is a Pagan custom. 1 For many people today, it is primarily as a secular symbol of hope for the New Year and the future return of warmth to the earth. Its future is assured in spite of opposition.

As a Christian, I have to say that there is no Christian symbolism for the tree. It is pagan:
Jer 10:3-4 For the customs of the people are vain; for one cuts a tree out of the forest with the axe, the work of the hands of the workman. They adorn it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and hammers, so that it will not wobble.
Sounds like a Christmas tree to me. Christians can make up all these reasons why a Christmas tree is Christian, but it is clearly pagan practice. Even giving gifts at Christmas is pagan. Everything about Christmas is pagan. It's not even Jesus' birthday, and God never told us to celebrate it. Christmas came about when the Christians were trying to convert pagans to Christianity way back when. They took pagan holidays (Yuletide) and put a Christian spin on it.

The Christmas tree had three corners but was still one tree so God is one God who exists in three persons: Then people started putting on food for decorations which tell of different fruits in the Bible to remind us of sin, and other things that happen in the Bible. Later on they used to have candles which showed that Jesus is the light of the world. The star represents The Star if Bethlehem. That's what the Christmas tree represents to me.

The Christmas tree has nothing to do with the birth of Christ. American exploits of the holiday to make a profit. A tree is not mentioned in the bible at all about the birth of Christ. he was born in a stable, and placed in a manger. the gifts were gold, frankincense and murr (boy did i spell that wrong) These were given from wise men to help fund the family's survival. Christ was nailed to a tree (wooden cross) when he died, but this has nothing to do with a Christmas tree.

Decorating a dead tree. I am not so sure who initiated it but for sure it is commerce. Christmas is the biggest income generating industry. While the child is born humbly in a manger, the people celebrate it with lavish expenditures. The gratitude is partly given to the one known as the savior to the world, but most that had been given away is the price for every gift exchanged.

They don't, they symbolize commercial sales pitches aimed at making you think the bigger , better gift you buy your loved ones shows the More you care- actually it's the more money they make. I don't agree with it at all.
