Yes, whey protein can help you gain weight / muscle. Naturally, you still have to make your body grow muscles by actually working out.

Remember that Whey protein is nothing more than a side-effect of cheese / milk processing. It's not a steroid, it's not a magical powder, and it won't build you into a strong man unless your diet and exercise routines are sound.

I usually use whey protein immediately after working out or sometimes as a mini-meal replacement where I feel I could use another 20 grams of protein. I usually mix mine with milk, as water is too bland.

Anybody can use whey protein, regardless of current body fat levels.

Once again, don't expect miracles (or be fooled by glossy ads). Aside from any additives that a manufacturer may put in, it's usually just 20 grams of protein (per serving) that you could've gotten from a can of tuna or chicken breast. Whey protein just is a bit more convenient and easy to get down.

Good luck.

It will help you gain weight. You also have to work out, preferably weight training, to make sure as that the weight gained is as much muscle as it can be. Having little body fat does not make a difference.

It is usually taken immediately after a workout or after waking up in the moring with water to let it be absorbed by the body as fast as it can.

It can be put in a milkshake if you just want extra protein with a meal, but after a workout or waking up in the morning it should only be taken with water.

Only, if you are placing enough resistance against your muscle to cause hypertrophy thus the need for whey protein (amino acids) to provide the necessary amino acids to help rebuild the muscle and minimize catabolism. In terms of results, it will vary according to how well you train. This typically is the largest stumbling block for most individuals.
