The animal game: "I'm thinking of an animal and it starts with ____." Then, let the child ask questions - is it a mammal, is it an herbivore (when the child says, "Does it eat plants?" you say, 'Yes, it's a herbivore.') This is a great way to teach about animals and add to a child's vocabulary.

Chutes and Ladders is a fun counting game for little kids.

Do you know the "A my name is ____
game? You fill in this verse: _____ my name is ____ and I come from _____. I like to eat ____ and I sell ______." First round, it all starts with a, then b, then c, all the way through. (A my name is annette and I come from andulusia, I like to eat avocados and I sell apples.")

Tic Tac Toe is a winner. So is taking turns drawing parts of a picture to see what you make, or telling a story together - you start, say a few sentences, then it's her turn to add a few sentences, then yours, etc. The stories get really wild.

Little girls tend to love crafts and some boys. Get glue, paper, lace, GLITTER, etc and let the child go to town creating whatever!!!!

Make a volcano and add vinegar to baking soda and red food coloring to watch the 'lava' bubble out.

Have fun and enjoy seeing life through a four year old's eyes.

Four Year Old Games

I know that many toddler are hooked on video games. Many people let their very young children play them, but they might not let you know it. My nephew (ages 2, 4 and 8) all play X-Box to some extent and there parents are in the Ministry. My advice is to limit the amount of time playing these games. Set up a schedule that you and your husband is comfortable with. Some game playing is fine. It helps hand- eye coordination, but like everything else he can have too much of it. Also try to find a little more appropriate games. X-Box live has many down-loadable games that are less violent and better suited for younger children. If your husband will play these types of games then you child will be more likely to follow his lead. Good luck
