The change came when they "ate the forbidden fruit" and their eyes were opened to a world of sin.
Shame is a negative feeling, thus connected with a sinful world, and as they became aware of the changed world, they became aware of their nakedness and felt shame.

Some have speculated it is because they were covered with a light covering. In the same way that Moses' face glowed with the shekinah glory when he came down from the mountain of God, and the people begged that he put a veil over his face.

Adam and Eve walked with God in the garden, and had close fellowship with Him. They were pure, but when they sinned, the covering was gone.

It's not that they were naked phiscally, but spiritually. Thier eyes were open to the fact of thier sin in disobeying God by eating of the tree. The close tie between God and Man had been broken. They were now afraid of God. It was in this moment that God's plan of redemption was born. The "seed" of Adam that would crush Satan's head was to be Jesus Christ Himself! Hope this helps.

The nakedness was not a big deal until they committed sin with the fruit that was forbidden, then they knew the truth about the sex differences whcih made them aware.

God didn't make them aware of their nakedness, it was their own shame and guilt of disobeying God that opened their eyes to their nakedness. They attempted to cover themselves from the presence of God which was symbolical of trying to hide or cover their sins. God provided the first sacrifice of a lamb in demonstration that he would be the one to cover their sins when he made their clothing for them. God became the Sacrificial Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world in clothing man with his righteousness for those who believe.

They didn't know the difference until they fell for Satan's lies and ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Then they knew they were naked and hid from God. God had nothing to do with them finding out. He had told them that was the one tree that they were not to eat from.
