Rite heres my story:
I dont have a dad, i have 2 sisters and one brother who each have different fathers, my mum is an alcoholic, my stepdad was murdered, my brother is a drug addict and sleeps around, my younger sister is turning into a chav, only 3 of us have jobs (not paying well tho), i got my girlfriend pregnant at 16 and we have a baby boy called Leo, and to top it all i live in Birmingham.
I just dont understand why its me that has to be so common. i try not to be when i meet new people but they seem to see through. its really having a bad effect on my self confidence and love life. is there any way of becoming 'uncommon' or something? im just really depressed about it.

Being common or a 'chav' has nothing to do with income or place of birth. It is an attitude. If you have a strong work ethic and a high set of morals then you are not common. If you work for your money and don't expect handouts from taxpayers, if you believe in furthering yourself intellectually, if you want to end each day a little wiser/better than you started it, then you are certainly not common. It has nothing to do with your background. Some of our finest and most worthy citizens have come from highly deprived backgrounds. Simply by asking your question you have demonstrated a desire to lift yourself out of the social stratum circumstances happen to have dealt you. Good luck with that. Never lose that dream. It can be achieved through hard work and respect for self and those around you. Noel Coward (whose family was by no means wealthy) always said that he was only related to himself. You are not defined by your relations or by your place of birth. You are only defined by your choices. (And I'm originally from Birmingham- it's not that bad.)

U gota live with what u are dealt.... but here's the thing.. you will always be you no matter what.. if you want you to change YOU have to do something about it....
if you are depressed u are probably only thinking these things about ur self confidenc and that everything is bad...

it is probably a wrong opinion.. and i would just not worry about it...
keepsmilling be a happy person.. perhap join a volunteering organisation.. they can teach u new ways to look at things...
you can learn a lot... and learn to repect other people enough to not be seen as common.

What do you mean by common?

Do you mean it like an insult? Like "trashy" or something?

Or do you mean it like "boring"?

If you mean it like "boring" than that is just not true.... your family sounds like an absolute circus and that is part of YOUR life....

If you mean it like "trashy" then don't worry about it... your family is not a reflection of you... you can be very different from them if you want to.

You will find much higher standards to live up to someday... move to the big city... or a different state... it will be the experience of a lifetime and it will be all yours. You can always move back home if it doesn't work out.

You have to respect yourself and be stronger than anything around you. Yes its hard, but if you can do it, it will show you what kind of man you are. People fall into traps because what is around them. You need to be stronger than that and over come whats in your life and right now the people around you aren't gonna help. You need to do it for you! You can do it. Just look into your heart and what you want for your life and your family in the future.

We are who/what we are by>>> choices, teachings, up-bringing, beliefs etc.
What makes you think you're common is>>> you>>> allowing your mind to believe it's true.
If you want things to be different for you, try figuring out who/what you really want to be (or do with your life)... & be determined to follow thru.
