do you find that the "happenings in the world" are having an impact on your work? My paintings have generally been pretty dark, but it seems that the subject matter is getting heavier, and the colors, more severe. Sometimes, while the canvasses are drying, they actually startle the passers by. I don't intend it that way, it just happens. (I don't direct my work, I give my subconscious mind free reign.) How about you?

Absolutely!
When hurricane Katrina happened, I started having dreams about hurricanes, tornados, and general catastrophies, and became obsessed. Every painting had some sort of cyclone or explosion in it - I even became obsessed with the maps you see in weather forecasts. By now, I still have a fascination with large explosive forces/ and inhuman power. . .

I also have a hard time with what is happening politically in the world, and I think all of my work has a tinge of something evil lurking, even though I tend to use happy colors. I find that work that is neither overtly happy or sad is generally the most successful. It 's much more interesting to think about the ways, for example, that the Bush Administration convinces itself that it is on the "moral right path" of spreading" "freedom and democracy," rather than focusing directly on how depressing it all is.
Truth isn't fixed, but witnessing the struggle to find it is truely compelling.

I don't know, my work is consistent and it is getting better with every canvas I paint.
The world around me is getting better and lighter but I don't think it influances my work.
I love the people around me and I don't let people get me down with their twisted crazy logic and their dark news. I work to make the place a better world .
Where I stand at I see a lot of wrong but I see people working to fix that. There is always a price to be paid for freedom or improving our or somebodies elses life, it is a sad truth but a real one. I wish that other people would do the same and stand up and fight against the tyrants of theworld who care only about themselves and try to scare people with their talk and lies.
good luck

it's all good. if you took all the world away - what would you be?

The only thing i wish to add - is it that if you took away the interptretation "dark" - you might see another apect of your work that you don't now see. Is there really such thing as "dark" - it is a likely story at best , or so i think.

I personally do not divide LIFE into "good" and "bad".. "light" and "dark" - though i do have a myriad of other categories which i am thrown to.

Let the world affect your art. I draw a lot ( i also do alot of other forms of art) but my subjects are people rapped up in the worlds events...your art should be your diary of how you feel about what's going on in your world. And so what if your arts dark your is art your diary.

Don't let the world affect your work. Make your work affect the world. If you have a message , convey it through your work . This is , or should be , your goal in life
