Welcome to Texas! As long as you steer clear of the good old boys named Jim Bob, Billy Bob and the like you should be ok. Austin is probably the most liberal city in Texas and people won't hold your race against you if you're citizens and hard-working. If its racism you're looking for - go to Dallas. Austin is a fun city with a lot going for it and a lot to do - make sure you go down on 6th Street - that's where its all happening!

I agree with Jih,there is racism everywhere just depends whom you are around. As for Tx I have lived here almost all my life and attended school for a while at the university in austin and its a great city.Your going to love the nightlife,it rocks. And the scenery there is very beautiful,as for an answer to your question I have had some family members and friends who also moved from Cali and they all seem to think that the racism is worse than it is here.Always meant to ask them is it true what they say that in california there are neighborhoods that are segregated?like where a majority ethnical group is,like latino, african american and so on?heard that a lot from Cali people i know but never have asked if that is true.

Well, if you are legal, you are American and not a Mexican. I do have a big problem with people who are anti-American and have foreign allegiance, though they live here as citizens. This is true for any color or nationality of people for me. but if people are proud to be here and took the trouble to become legal, I am all for them. You will find racism toward alot of groups everywhere, you should not let it run your life or the racism will win. It's a free country, go where you want.

well if you consider these facts:
1) the capital is called after the general Huston a "hero"in the American invasion to Texas
2)the KKK had deep roots in the northern part of the state
3)the original Americans who came to the Mexican Texas were slave owners
4)the Texas rangers are from well Texas
( criminal groups that hunted Mexicans)
5) the Texan infrastructure is designed to remember the Alamo
therefore perpetuate the hated towards Mexicans .

If you and your family are legal citizens you are NOT mexican. You would be American. That is a clue to what the problem is today!
