...cannot prove?

Atheists cannot prove there is no deity, and fundamentalists cannot prove theirs is the only deity.

That leaves the rest of us standing in the cross-fire between these two fanatical groups, believing in our own truths and accepting that truth may appear differently to others without feeling the need to disrespect them.

How do those of us who are not fanatics use the R&S board without getting caught up in the cross-fire of fanatics?
A> thumbs down on all fanatics?
B> appeal to their reason to convince them that arguing absolutes is pointless?
C> Preface our questions with "Moderates:..." so as to invite non-fanatics to participate in our questions?
D> Other?
E> Status Quo?

I have to admit I like A, thumbed down eight fanatics and the remaining answers make for an interesting opportunity to learn and share.

ONCE AGAIN, atheists needn't disprove anything. Why continually bring them into this "you can't prove your position, neener neener neener" debate when THEY DON'T HAVE TO?

I've said it before and I'll say it again... the burdon of proof rests squarely upon the shoulder of those making the positive assertion. It is NOT anyone elses job to verify that "something" exists except for the person asserting that "something" exists.

Yes, both groups are guilty, although I would venture to say that you should put "hardcore fanatical" atheist to differentiate them, since not all atheists are like that. It's like saying all spiritual people are fanatical fundementalists.

But besides that, I do agree that fundementalists and hardcore atheists are equally guilty of arrogance. As for how I deal with it, I just ignore them. It's not worth it and even doing something like giving them a thumbs down on a question would be a waste of energy and it would be giving them my time that, quite frankly, many of them don't deserve.

Atheists are making no such claims and you completely misrepresent atheism.

I am an atheist and anxiously await any theist on the planet providing credible evidence supporting his beliefs. Until such time, the only logical conclusion is that his beliefs are not supported by evidence, i.e, God does not exist.

If you don't know what you believe in relation to the existence of God, you must be suffering brain defects of some kind.

Citizen, that's an incredible question. Atheist look to in user-friendly terms have their eyes on fundamentalist -- perhaps because of the fact that's extremely trouble-free to make the ideals of fundamentalist seem very superstitious and in simple terms ridiculous because of the literalism, then how many fundamentalist do no longer even understand the historic previous of the religion itself, and likewise how lots of people who call themselves Christians are no longer from now on Christian in prepare (that's following the training of Jesus/Yeshua) then a atheist is. in fact they call out sin to others, and placed others down, on a similar time as being in simple terms as "sinful" as those they condemn, even worst because of the fact the judgment on a believer is a lot worst than an unbeliever, in accordance to the bible. maximum Fundamentalist Christians are not Christian in any respect, and lots from it. how are you able to be "Christ like" in case you do no longer stay with the aid of the belief and recommendations of Christ, prepare them on your existence, to grow to be "Christ like"? They do the alternative, they have created guy-made doctrines that thoroughly contradict what "Christian means". They do each thing, and say each thing, which could furnish them the means to no longer attempt TO BE Christian. The call and phone "Christian" ought to be earned via self-transformation -- prepare.

I prefer B... though there are times I'd love to rip into a few myself. I try to find a common ground to work from. If it doesn't work by the 2nd attempt, I don't even bother clicking on that persons questions anymore. Saves me alot of aggravation.

Atheists have nothing to prove, the burden of proof is on the heads of idiots who claim there is a god. In as much as I was not around to see how everything came into being (and neither were you),I say, "I don't know ..... YET!" To assume that some god, my less than intellectual ancestors made up, instantaneously farted the universe into being, is absurd

Not all atheists make the claim, "There is no god."

Agnostic atheists, or "weak" atheists are those that simply lack a belief in god or gods.

It's a subtle difference. The weak atheist says, "I don't believe there is a god." The strong atheist says, "I believe that there is no god."

Beyond that, "disproving" every irrational claim is not just a waste of time, it's a ludicrous waste of time.

If you look down at your keyboard, you will quickly come to the realization that this keyboard is absolutely there. It is not relatively there. There are absolutes in this world! You can also be a "fence-sitting" moderate and not know which way is up or down.

fanatic here, maybe you should ask yahoo to make a new category, you know like "wishy-washy religion and spirituality"
what do you think?

James 1
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
