Assuming that you are referring to US government...I must say that Yes, it has definately gotten too religious. When an elected official proclaims adherence to a faith, he is bound by that faith to act in accordance with its tenents. This necessarily produces a conflict of interest as the official is elected to represent the will of the people who elect him/her. Either the people or the religion is subject to a situation of betrayal. It is difficult to trust one's government in such a climate.

The government is no more religious today than it was ten years ago. The GOP is catering to bible thumpers because thumpers are the only group that is stupid enough to support them in large numbers.

No, this government was founded on religion and separation is a relatively modern spin on the intentions of the founding fathers. We need to get back to the basics.
