Illegal immigrants rarely if ever wash their hands after using the toilet. Additionally, most of them suffer functional illiteracy. They do not practice personal hygiene or health habits most Americans assume as a normal aspect of living.
sounds like BS to me, very out-there stereotyping...what do you think?

ok, about the dirty toilet paper in the trashcan....in Mexico they do that because of the lousy water pressure in the toilets...if they flush it, it will clog the toilet. That is considered impolite to ruin someone's bathroom.

I am as grossed out as the next person about people that dont wash their hands after going to the restroom, but why point fingers at illegal immigrants and say they all dont, and that they all are illiterate?

No one has ever offered proof that the Ecoli has anything to do with immigrant (legal or not) or human feces even. Dont you know that it can very easily have come from the fertilizer that was used! Stop blaming people!

I agree renclrk, germs do help us build immunities. I see so many parents (usually first-time parents) that are so worried that anyone touch their baby, or that the baby touch anything...but they dont realize that the germs the baby gets will help them be stronger, and that in a year or so the baby will put everything they can find in their mouth anyway!

very interesting post. i think it has to do with what you are taught. does Mexico teach their population about hand washing as America does? you know through literature and advertisements? i don't know if they do or not. do laypeople understand how bacteria and disease are spread through personal contact? many American laypeople don't, as well as (and this is scary) many health care workers do not. we have many hospital acquired illnesses all over the country because of this problem. yes it is possible that the illegal immigrant out in the field does not understand the importance of hand washing. it is just as possible that the American out in the field does not understand the importance of hand washing. it starts with education. as for the tainted spinach i think it is more likely the e-coli was spread during packaging than out in the field.

It's Not Fair To Say Anything OUT OF CONTEXT
See machiko_146's Answer (Above)
Especially field migrants..........
Where They Grow Our E-Coli Infected Food
suffer functional illiteracy. ???
Yes
In Our Society (United States)
They (ILLEGAL ALIENS) Are Functionally Illiterate
The Majority (More Than 50 Percent)
Cannot READ Or WRITE = Functionally Illiterate
In Any Language
It's Not Fair To Selectively Choose
Constitutional Amendments Out Of Context Either
In Response To Your Statement :
"No one has ever offered proof
that the Ecoli has anything to do with immigrant (legal or not)"
I Say
No One Has Offered Any Proof
That It Does NOT

Somehow I doubt that the hygiene habits have any bearing on whether someone is illegal or not!
As for functional illiteracy... "most" would certainly be an exaggeration. It would probably be fair however to say that the percentage of illegal immigrants that are functionally illiterate is higher then most other demographics. You consider that they come from poor places where there isn't likely to be a strong education (rich folk don't risk their lives to come here)... and the opportunity to learn once they are here is limited.
Of course your statement isn't fair. Not even close. That's an easy call.

I read that too,I'm sure its a stereotype and not a fact.
I do know that in some country's bathing often is frowned upon. But I don't think that's true that people from most country's aren't clean.Ive seen clean and dirty of all races. The fact that it was said only about illegal immigrants makes me question its truth even more.If that was true it would be more of a culture thing ,don't you think.I don't think that's a fact .
Foundation ,is that a threat ?

Well, Mendi I see where you are going with this but think about the living conditions of some of these people. Especially field migrants. They are lucky to have a toliet, let alone a sink. And some of them haven't finished grade school, it could be fair to say that some are somewhat illterate. You can hardly expect someone with little education to know all about germ theory, can you? I suppose it depends on what country your from, habits taught by your parents, and general level of education. And not all Americans wash their hands, I have used public toliets( I know, but I really had to go) and heard them leave the stall and just go. Eeeeew.

Picking up the odd germ here and there has been proven to actually stimulate the bodys' own immune system. It's a shame the same can't be said of a little common sense here and there in relation to the theory of "live and let live"

I would not say that its a immigrant issue, its a general heath issue. I work in a restaurant and I have seen many people of all races and backgrounds use the bathroom and not wash afterwords. It's plain gross!! That's a perfect way to spread germs.

BS. I don't have a problem with immigrants that go through the proper channels to become Americans. Also they should learn English and pay taxes like everyone else. The only problem I have is illegals who commit crimes. Most are hard working who do become legal and never break the law.
