believers say if you do good deeds, you become closer to god and if you do bad deeds, you will be punished. any how , i am an atheist, i don't believe in god. god and devil are symbols for our good deeds and bad deeds.

If reading the Bible hasn't been helpful you need to find a good Bible teaching congregation.
You don't have to follow any denomination to be close to God. The point is to Live a spirit driven life. Check out Galatians 5&6 there is always e-mail if y ou need more encouragement.

Bible study and understanding God's word brings anyone closer to God also just as important a posative attitude.

Complete and utter trust in God and a complete love for Jesus. That will bring you closer to God. You need to study the bible, talk to ministers at your church, attend church, and most of all pray.

The closest you can get to God is to talk to him, therefore pray. Then you will find the answer to your question!
