As far as I have been able to find out, enlisted have always worn there Rank insigna on the left arm... Never the Right... All other services have rank on both arms, and some times on end of their dress uniform shirts. Does anyone have any one have information as to How far back that tradition started, and Why only enlisted rank on there left sleeve? Thanks muchly. GG

I don't remember how when it started. I do know that the roman legions had something to do with it. it was a replacement for a certain type of staff the centurians had (thier version of a sgt).
