potatoes, onions, tomatoes, baked beans, milk, rice, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, eggs and assorted fruits and veggies with the balance money left.

i could cook a variety of dishes using permutations and combinations of the above ingredients. the food would be filling (high starch content in potatoes, rice and pasta), balanced (proteins, carbs and fibre) and easy on the pocket too.

its also possible to include beef or pork to the above items if u can manage to buy it in a sale or bargain. or u could opt for spam.but since im a vegetarian, i substituted the balance money for fresh fruits and veggies. if u buy the ones which are in season u'll get them at a very cheap price.

You need to consider a balanced diet even on a budget. Actually, if you are eating good foods, you are probably paying much less than processed foods...
Forget the t.v. dinners and ramen noodles...here is what I'd buy:

A box of store brand oats ( grain and fiber) $1.50
A jar of honey (sweetener) $2
A couple bags of dried beans (lentils; mixed beans;kidney) protein
75 Cents each X 2= $1.50
Frozen vegetables (green beans, corn, carrots; etc)-$1.25 X 3=$3.75 ( beats canned vegetables and is less expensive than fresh)
Fresh fruit (plums, bananas, oranges, apples ) $5 Not too expensive and very healthy...
Sweet potatoes or baking potatoes $1.50 or brown rice $2.00(carbohydrate)
Bag of almonds for a nutritious snack $4.25
Bread $2
Peanut butter $2.50
Dozen eggs $1.25
Add taxes...
That should about cover it...

Everybody says that you need milk and meat, but believe me-you're a lot better off without it!

Macaroni and cheese and Sweedish fish! wow maybe I need to start reconsidering my diet! Actually I would definetly hit Costco they always have bulk food for cheap! (Fruit snacks, cereal, granola, fruit, meats, etc....) Also Walmart has these great microwave dinners the Michellina.... Mi... something ones for only a dollar! They are a great meal and leave you really full and feeling healthy! That would definitely buy you meals for a week! Even almost 2!

i would buy a good piece of round steak, a head of cabbage, an onion, 2 bags of frozen vegetables, 1 large can of tomato juice, and 2 cans of beef broth. This would make a large pot of soup that is nutritious and can be reheated. I would buy 1 dozen of eggs and a pound of bacon to have for breakfast. A loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter, a gallon of milk, and a box of cereal, and lastly I would have to have some small Milky Way bars.

Welllll. For breakfast I'd have an egg, an orange, and a glass of milk.....For a packed lunch I'd have a peanut butter sandwich, a banana and a juice box....For dinner I'd make a salad with lettuce, cucumber, tomato and salad dressing ..and have 3 oz of chicken and a little baked potato.

List..1 dozen eggs....7 oranges....jug of milk...small jar of peanut butter...clump of 7 or more bananas....7 juice boxes....head of lettuce....cucumber...3 tomatoes...salad dressing.....7 small potatoes...a big roaster chicken (on sale costs about $6)...that would come to about $23..the other $7 could be for treats like popcorn....grapes...cheese...cereal

I've had to make it on less than that before. That was several years ago though. Stuff like bread, peanut butter, cheese, cereal, milk, lunch meats, cheap frozen pizzas, oranges, bananas, maybe a pint of ice cream.
