Yes they are safe as there are no known interactions with "BC".

When your psychiatrist has you stabilized on the correct type and mg. of Lithium to control your mania, be sure to have routine blood & urine work performed to make sure that you don't become "toxic".

Always establish an excellent relationship with the pharmacist as they have far more knowledge of interactions then your own personal doctor.

They never seem to take the time to read up on interactions related to other medications that you may be taken. Plus alot of them really don't know. So trust the pharmacist as they are experts in drug interactions.

Plus with the good relationship you have with the same pharmacy they will not fill any prescription written by a doctor when they see there is an interaction with other medications you make be taking listed in their computer.

I was taking lithium for my mania and I was on celexa for my depression as well as birth control pills. I was told by my doctor that I should use a back-up method of birth control (condoms) as well as take my pills b/c sometimes all the medication taken together can interfere with the effectiveness of the birth control. Ask your doctor if this may be the same for you. I am now on depakote, ativan and wellbutrin and still take my birth control, which my doctor says is fine and I have had no problems as of yet. Good luck!

While on Lexapro, it will decrease the effectiveness of your bith control pills. Your MD does know what all meds you are taking but sometimes they can easily look over that stuff. They are so busy. At any rate check with your MD that gave you the Lexapro, then check with your pharmacist. But no its not dangerous, unless you consider getting pregnant a danger. I would!

The doctor prescribing your medications should be aware of all other medications you are taking and when ever possible you should fill your presciptions at the same pharmacy and build a relationship with your pharmacist who can help spot bad or poor combinations to medications. Please ask your pharmacist or prescribing doctor this question and don't follow the advice of anyone here on Yahoo answers who tells you anything different!
