It is really tender when I press on it and I think it may be causing headaches and neck/upper back tension.

The good news is -- it is probably nothing, or something benign and easy to deal with. The catch--you need to have a credible doctor look at it, and rule out that it might be anything more problematic.

Have you had any bug bites, or other external bumps/acne that could have gotten a bit infected (thus the tenderness?)

Bottom line--don't delay getting it looked at.

Go to a Chiropractor, they can work out knots and stop the headaches.

It could be an infected lymph node, or you could have an infection someplace in your system & your lymph nodes are swollen because of it ??? If it persists, go to your doctor.
