Okay, I'm 14 and I want to get my hair permed. After reading through tons of perm-related topics here, it seems that getting a perm is a very bad idea, yet, I still want to get one since I want curly hair.

I have dark, medium, thick, wavy hair... I've already done highlights and lightened my hair and all that, but I never felt satisfied. I just feel truly comfortable and pretty whenever I curl my hair.

I won't bother with curling irons, they just take toooooooo long.

Should I get a perm or not? Upsides and downsides of it?

Thanks much!

My first perm at 14 took on one side and didn't on the other. They had to reperm and when they did, I looked like a poodle stuffed in a dryer without a fabric softener sheet. I had coarse, poker straight hair. There are many curl enhancing products out there nowadays, that maybe you will be better off using them. If you must have curly hair, but don't want to deal with a curling iron, try this: Shampoo and condition your hair the night before with a curl enhancing product(like Fresh Curls from Redken, Suave makes a knock off of this product that works just as good, or you can use Curl Friends products). Redampen you hair in the morning and apply a curling balm or spray and scrunch. Or you can follow the first step(apply the balm or spray to dry hair) and keep the hair dry and take your hair in small sections, twist them and then set your hair with hot rollers. This way is alot quicker and you get some nice curls. If you want to keep the lock of the curl, make sure you spray with some hairspray.

I've been getting my hair permed since I was about 14 (I'm 48 now) and I love them. I have fine straight hair, but a lot of it.

I do exactly what the hair stylist says as far as caring for my hair after a perm, and most people assume that my curls are real; there is no damage to my hair.

Since you've done other things to your hair chemically, you should really discuss this with a good hair stylist (not someone who just wants the job to get money). One who will give you the best advice for your hair.

I love my curls and I know exactly what you mean when you say you only feel comfortable and pretty with curls! (I always burn my neck on curling irons and they DO take too long).

Good luck!

♥♪♦♫ please wait until you are 18 to make a decision like this because the longer you wait the better off your hair will be, My Neice hair was to her butt and then she went and got a perm because she was tried of getting it straightened with the hot comb and then that is when her hair fell out and now she has a short cute bob but that is beside the point because every body told her not to do it but she did not want to listen and now her hair is gone. So now I am saying please don't do it. Why don't you get wash and sets and that will give you the straight look you are looking for or you can get press and curl that will look cute. I hope that I have helped you. ♥♪♦♫

I would say no because my daughter got one and her hair started to break off. If you do decide to get a perm go to someone who knows hair. It would be best to spend the extra money and get a good one than to end up with a really bad one. Also start a month before you go and use a clarifying shampoo this will help and never get a chemical activated perm it will burn your hair.
Good luck !

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! i got one. i loved it for a week. U can never fully brush your hair...all u can use is a pick and it has to be wet! they take to much effort!!plus, my hair got greesy in like 3 hours from all the product! Also, when it wore off, my previously bone strait hair is now frizzy and freekishly curly, so i straitin it. perms arent worth it...just every night, after u wash ur hair, poot it up in a bun (wet) and in the morning, put gel on it and skrunch it. (pick up parts of it and squeeze it up by ur head) then gel it agin w/ hairspray

the boxed perm she could use comes from a splendor furnish abode. those from the dep. shop are quite good and could maximum probably fry your hair and scalp. extra constructive off letting the experts do it. takes a protracted time for hair to enhance back!
