NO, those things are no substitute for crunches done with good form. In fact, when people buy one of those over-priced contraptions, they get a false sense of security and start doing their cruches sloppily. At the very least, they won't get good results. Worse, they might sculpt their abs to bulge outward (something that can happen if you do not draw your abs in while crunching). And at the very worst, you can hurt your back and neck.

So your best bet is to work with a trainer at the gym for a session or two just to learn proper form and technique for doing crunches. Then replicate at home in front of a mirror, or at the gym on your own.

they make cunches easier. and in fitness, anything easier means you ain't doing it right. the old adage of no pain, no gain is the motto. they CAN work however will usually take a lot longer than doing regular crunches. for people who have bad backs or simply can't do enough sets of crunches get these in order to make themselves feel like they;re doing the exercises properly.

Nah it's just a marketing ploy. But if it gets you to work out regularly, go for it. You can get them used.
