Before religion I had the ability to bust your brains out of your head for a biscuit and wouldn't have to worry about any consequences for my actions.

No, the problem is not a particular religion but the fanatics who infiltrate any order to serve their own selfish ends.
Just look at British history, if you were of a different faith to the monarch your life was in danger, It was used as a means of control and to instill fear in the minds of people and that is what is happening in the Middle East at the moment. The fact is that none of the current problems would have occurred if America, Britain and other countries had not supplied weapons to religious fanatics, destabilising their countries and turning people against each other. It is all about control and has gone on for centuries, history continues to repeat itself!

A religion is something you believe in and does not matter what as long as you believe in it. So I am taking to mean christianity, muslim, bhutism and so forth. I must admit that during a lot of wars and other things religion has been istumental in the killing of people but surely it has given a lot of comfort to people.
It is such a good question and will be debated until the end of time.

Yep..
Just about every conflict on the planet has religion at the heart of it.
Just a shame they don't practice what they preach.. "love thy neighbour" and "turn the other cheek" "thou shall not kill" etc.
Instead they all seem to "do unto others as they do to you"
I have no time for religion or it's zealots any more, they are nothing but troublemakers now.
Just look at the fuss the new idiot pope has just caused for example, not to mention Israel v Palestine.
I'll get my asbestos suit on now... :-)

I seriously doubt that banning religion would cause anyone to stop believing. Outlawing it would only be able to make it illegal to speak about it in public. The churches would have to close up, sure. But how are you going to stop them from gathering in their own homes?
At least with the freedom of speech, you have some kind of warning.

No. Religion itself is not harmful. Religious extremism is though, and if we could find a way to ban those (of any religion) who would take us down that route, then we should.

No, that is ridiculous. Religions do good things, just because you feel this way doesn't mean they should be banned. It's a good point though.

No, we are either a free society or we are not. Can't have it both ways - that the things you disapprove of are banned, but the thing you love get a big thumbs up.
