Okay she called the school and let them know what had happened. The school called Child Protective services. Her daughter was having a temper-tantrum, she turned to hand the brush to her daughter who was behind her and thats when it hit her face it was an accident. There are no other marks on her daughter or her other 3 children. Does this sound consistant with child abuse?

She was holding a baby from the front on the couch, was not looking behind and just reached her arm around.

As a physician, I'm required by law to report any suspected child abuse (as are teachers/nurses/etc). If I see the above kid in my clinic and see the bruise, during my exam I'll look for other signs such as old bruises and such. I'll talk to the kid and see what she says. I'll interview the parent.

If I suspect abuse, I'll report it to CPS. But the thing is, with all the stories you hear about kids dying from child abuse, people will tend to call CPS 1st and let them sort it out. By law, I'm required to report suspected abuse and can face sanction if it turns out that I didn't report a case of actual abuse. So, with today's litigous environment it's better to be safe than sorry.

There is NO way this constitutes 'child abuse'. To be honest, there are far too many people willing to jump on the "child abuse bandwagon' and call Child Protective Services for the most minor of incidents. The school was covering itself and had no interest in explanations. The marks will disappear and the child will be perfectly alright. CPS will see this incident for what it is - an accidental contact, close the case and everything will go back to normal.

The definition of child abuse in this state anyway (pertinent to your question) is any bruise lasting longer than 3 days. An accident like you describe wouldn't leave that type of bruise. Yes, sounds like mom lost her temper with her daughter. Suggest some parenting or angere management classes for her so it doesn't happen again.

Abusers almost never leave marks in visible areas. They keep bruising to places covered by clothing. Unless the school suspected she has the potential for being violent, they shouldn't have contacted CPS. CPS will investigate, find out it was an accident, and just close the case as non-incidental. It won't be on her record.

The problem here is, though, if that child is pissed at her mother that day, she might lie to CPS. My cousin, who is 100% not abusive to her children and has never put a bruise, cut, or scrape on them in her life got CPS called on her just the other day because her oldest son got mad at her and went to daycare and told the attendant that she chokes him. Anyone who knows her at all knows that she would never do something like that ever. Anyway, CPS is going to put her child in counseling for a while because they have found no evidence of abuse at all, so hopefully that will help. Ever since his little brother was born he has been a little devil. It's weird. It was like a day and night change for him.

Wash her up, placed some neosporin or something on on the scratches and have her placed ice on any of the aspects that are sore or bruising. Then ask her what got here approximately. Be a secure person for her. do no longer threaten to tell the lecturers or something by way of fact she would desire to no longer want to open up. After she purely tells you each and every thing, ask her what SHE desires to do approximately it. And purely help her verify the priority so as that she would not come abode back like a battered spouse.

no this does not constitute child abuse. If there were other bruises (old and new) then there would be a problem. They will probably just do a home visit, give her an evaluation and then close it out.

That's definitely not child abuse. Its a pure accident. Accidents happen and I'm sure your friend didn't mean to do it.

Sound like she meant to strike her, if one does believe in spanking a child then they better be aware of their own strength. Before one ever strikes a child (on the behind of course) hit them self on their own thigh to become aware of how hard they're striking in their moment of rage. if one can't control it and or find them self feeling guilty or others are concerned, get at least a 6 month anger management class (takes time to change ones habits) they'll be glad they did. children aren't the only ones that get under ones skin.

any bruise becomes serious,,,,especially when the school catches it.....as long as your friend has proof of the truth then everything will be fine..if the child is old enough to talk they will believe the child ....good luck to your friend
