Buddhism is a very tolerant religion, and I practice tolerance everyday. It is so rare because people learn just one religion and condemn all others without learning anything about them...

“One country, one ideology, one system is not sufficient. It is helpful to have a variety of different approaches. We can then make a joint effort to solve the problems of the whole of humankind”

"Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed"

Tolerance involves effort.

Unfortunately, many people these days are so busy with simply surviving in our hectic, fast-paced world that they don't feel that they have time in their day to give time to others.

I am a teacher, and part of my job is to be tolerant (of students, parents, administrators). Often it is difficult, but each challenge and each time I bite my tongue and try to see another's point of view, I learn something and become a better teacher.

It is not easy, and I am CERTAINLY not perfect!

Well one of the reasons is, intolerance is taught in churches and schools. God knows that I am guilty of it myself. I try to tolerate the fundamentalists and I should respect their opinion. Helen Keller said, "One of the benefits of education is tolerance." I need to try harder and agree to disagree more. When I get hate mail though, it is no holds barred.

Are non human animals tolerant of most other species? NO! they either hate or are indifferent to them. God created them that way or that is just nature's plan. I think humans are not that much more civilised than animals and they only look out for their own type because of how unimportant they really are in the grand scheme of thinsgs.

Because it takes so much effort and self-consistency to acheive it. We are naturally inclined to be intolerant. One must DESIRE tolerance to attain it.

I think it is because when we tolerate something, we are admitting that our position (on whatever) is not steadfast.
