The drinking age is not in the law. So if an adult were to pour you a glass of wine at the table, it is not illegal. The law prohibits sale of alcohol to people under 16, though.

the legal buying age of alcohol (only beer, wine, etc. no spirits) (to know the difference: if it's available at the supermarket then it is legal) is 16. You have to be 18 to buy spirits in the Netherlands. But when an adult gives you a beer, even if you're 12, you can drink the alcohol.
When I was 16 I also tried to buy spirits, if the shop owner catches you, then there's no problem, he will only not sell it to you. If the cops catch you, also not a big problem because you're a minor, they will probably give you a fine and the owner of the store as well. The owner of the store might even have to close the shop, I'm not sure about that. So it isn't very strict.
ps. you don't have this from me :p

RE:
Drinking Age in Netherlands??
I might be going to the Netherlands for a year, and let's just say I'm "under age". What's the drinking age and is it very strict?
