If I'm not prepared for a variety of answers and points of views I shouldn't be asking the question in the first place but if I didn't like one in particular I'd read it over and see where that person is coming from in their thinking. After all it's their point of view and as long as it wasn't down right ignorant I'd accept it.

Usually if they make a point that I may not agree with but don't consider to be irrelevant or too subjective but still not too thorough, I don't rate it. If I very much agree with an answer, I thumbs up. If I think the answer is well thought out and supported but don't necessarily agree, I still thumbs up. If the answer is utter garbage and has no value, thumbs down.

If you are answering, usually I just try and be as honest as possible, reward the answers you thought were good whether or not it was the best answer. I only use the thumbs down on those who "game" the system by throwing in BS answers or those just posting to earn 2 points. It's abusing the intent of what answers is all about.

99% of the time I just skip over the entire question. Every once in a while one will be posted that I can't fight the urge and do leave a "knee jerk" response. That thumbs down stuff I haven't done. Never seem to think about it.

I believe what I believe and you believe what you believe.
Christianity is based on faith and reason.
Atheism is based only on reason.
Naturally there will be some (if not much) disparity between the responses of atheists to atheists and the responses of Christians to atheists.
I give a thumbs up to anyone I feel asks a sincere question, regardless of religious belief or lack thereof.

If they are just being outright rude, I give thumbs down. On my own questions, if a person "replies" but does not answer my question (i.e. uses it as a soapbox to tell me I need Jesus...nevermind the fact that I already have him in my life...or when I ask questions for creativity and they just reply that God is the one who should blah blah...or they just reply that religion is for morons...then I give them thumbs down. If I don't agree with a post, but it is an actual answer and well thought out, I'll often give a thumbs up.

I only give thumbs down if the "question" isn't a question, is an emotional attack instead of a rational inquiry or point, or is incoherent. I'm probably more likely to give Christians (I'm a Christan) thumbs down then others it makes me made when they make me look like an idiot by their behavior.

I try to consider the validity of the point being made. Even if I don't agree with it sometimes, I'll give a thumbs up if it's a good answer.

i wouldnt give a thumbs down unless the person was rude .. even if i disagreed
yesterday i picked a best answer that totally went against my own views .. because they answered sensibly and it was well thought out
whats the point in asking questions only to recieve answers that you agree with .. you may as well not ask

I see how they present their answer. If it is done in a fair way even though I don't agree I will not use the thumbs down key.
