Hexadactyly in itself can be innocuous, absolutely harmless and very easily remedied, when the hexadactyly is an isolated finding and the baby is otherwise entirely normal. Ulnar hexadactyly with just a rudimentary tag of a sixth digit, for instance, can be very simply treated by tying it off with one suture. I got that from medicine.net

Why would he be mad, did you do something that makes him suspect it is your fault? Is the baby otherwise healthy? Why wouldn't you be there for the surgery, how else would the baby get there and home again, breast feed, etc?

I think you have left out some important information.

Born With 6 Fingers

It is not your fault. I had 6 fingers at birth, It was next to my pinky finger. Back then they didn't talk to parents the same way. The first time my mother saw me my hand was all wrapped up. I was so young I never never had a memory of this and the scar is no more than a line on my skin. It worked out for me but I think it would depend on where the extra finger is and what the doctor recommends.

One of my best friends has a 4 year old daughter who has 6 toes on one foot and they decided that if it was hurting her then they would have it removed. So far she's okay with it, and she's doing good. She's convinced that since she has that, that she is going to grow up and do something REALLY special, like change something somehow. Anyway, I wouldn't get it removed unless it was hurting him in any way. As for your husband, I don't know, I'm kinda bitchy and I would tell him to kiss my ***, or more than that. If you have already decided to get it removed, then yes, go with him. He's a newborn and way too little to be at the hospital by himself. I hope I have helped, good luck.

Why is your husband blaming you for the child having 6 fingers? What a jerk!

Is it really important to you that your child get surgery on this? I would discuss your options with your doctor--including the time in which it is safest for you to do this--and go from there.

It could well be his fault. Six digits is a recessive gene, and who is to say which of you contributed it? You may wish to talk with your pediatrician, but surgery may be a good idea at some time, if only for psychological reasons.

God..Men will blame women for anything. This is in no way your fault nor his either for that matter. You will have to be there when they do the surgery to sign consent papers. If your husband doesn't go with you take someone else for moral support.

You need to go to Miami Children's Hospital and be evaluated by Dr. Marshall. Then go for genetic counseling and tell your husband to shut up because it might be from something in his side of the family. This is not something that you point the finger at each other.
