My question is in two parts.
1.) You say to a guy "But you pushed me away." and he says "I pushed you away because you were getting close. I pushed you away for your sake. And mostly for my sake as well." - being a girl, I take this as he knew could start to feel something for me but is afriad of getting hurt. BUT it could also be because he didn't want to hurt me. What do you guys think?
2.) I emailed him yesterday and said "If you are thinking about stopping by tomorrow night, let me know." I have gotten no response from him. So, this means a 'no', right?
Guys really need to learn how to open up. Seriously.

Guys (almost) always say what they mean. If he said he felt you were getting too close, then he really thinks that. Try to find out WHY he thinks that is a better way to go about things. Men like logic, so find out the reasoning behind things - forget about feelings, that's how women think (and why you came to your conclusion about "hurting"). The other possibility is that he's not as interested as you in getting as close as quick. Just be fun and easy going and you'll get what you want - most women like to "know where this is going" and nag, which just puts us off. Be fun!!!!
2 doesn't mean a no or a yes, we blokes are very bad at making arrangements ahead of time. He might just turn up, or he might not. Give him a call in the afternoon and then he will know. Remember! Don't be pushy about it, that's nagging. Be easy going.
There are lots of books on the psychology of men and women that are interesting and helpful. Ummm, Why Men Lie and Women Cry is an easy and fairly helpful read. But the quick way is forget feelings and use logic.

"you were getting close. I pushed you away for your sake" = He didn't want to be close... 2 reasons=
He didn't feel as close as you, and didn't want soemthing to that degree so he took u a step back. Thus one for him being that he didn't get caught up in it too much and wouldn't have to push u away and hurt either of you when he knew he didn't want that from the start. The other end of it all comes down to fear or just not feeling the same as you and knew u were getting too close because he didn't feel the same.

Answer to 1), I think the guy is thinking more about himself than you when he says he pushed you away for your sake. I'm in my first relationship (and no, I'm not 18.....just got into one late in life) and notice that I have in a way lost a lot of space of mine. I miss my space. Try giving him some and maybe that may help?
2) He's etiher thinking or has made up his mind; he ain't coming.

He's playing with you using girl talk. Guys speak plain unless they think they are being played. Then they resort to that mystical girl "inside read into" talk. It's just putting things all on the same level.
Try direct questions and answers and you'll probably receive the same.

To answer your question; he is either in a relationship, just got out of a relationship (and was hurt from it) and doe not wnat to hurt you or himself.

If he didn't answer your email, it might mean, well that he hasn't read his emails. The close thing, might mean that you were close to catching who he really was.
