I'm in a new relationship and my boyfriend's sister, who I met briefly (about 5 minutes), invited myself and my boyfriend (obviously! :) to BBQ with her and her husband. I've met my boyfriend's brother and sister-in-law (who live next door to the sister and brother-in-law and will most likely be at the BBQ). Haven't met any other family and this is kind of a big deal. I know they'll all be scoping things out to make sure I'm good enough for the little brother. (: I am! So no worries there. But, I'd like to bring something as a 'thank you' gift for the invite. What's appropriate??

food, or how about a game to play or maybe a cd of her favorite music. ask the boyfriend who she likes to listen too and see if she has a cd player or cassette player and bring her some music.

Since you are going to a barbecue, try that theme. Gourmet barbecue sauce[s], those cute little weights that hold the tablecloth down, a screen umbrella for the food, a picnic basket, sun tea kit, a cookbook, a a deviled egg carry tray with lid [maybe with a batch of eggs in it], , a pitcher and glases with a cute picnic theme, like lemonade, your own barbecue related recipes, giant metal salt and pepper shakers for the grill, gourmet dry rubs, a basket of barbecue items that you select, flowers for the table.
If you are looking to make big brownie points, call and ask if your can bring something, be sure and suggest a few things that you know how to make, and make the bowl, or plastic carry case the gift. Like, "Hi Carol, this is Mary, Mike's girlfriend. thanks so much for the invite to your BBQ. May I bring something? I 'm not the greatest cook in the world, but I make a mean potato salad, and I do deviled eggs really well." Have the BF bring a six-pack of the host's favorite brew, if he knows beer will be served, icy cold, of course, and do that no matter what else you bring.[ If you are over 21, of course to that one, too.]
.Bring a cake in a tupperware cake carry or on a cute cake stand. Cupcakes in a wire stand, brownies in a 13x9 tupperware case. Cute outdoor candles, A cute yard ornament. If you have crafting skills, make something like a wreath for he door, a fall flower basket, a cornucopia.
And no matter what you bring, follow it up with a mailed thank you note after the party..
Summer stuff should be on sale now at the department stores, you might find something cute, for cheap.
Good luck, hope you make a good impression! I'm sure you will.

i'm 23 and that i anticipate my travelers to hold the two alcohol or a nutrition/snack merchandise be it chips, meat, in spite of. You, on the different hand won't want to hold alcohol. i'd propose baking a dessert your self (no longer a important direction-that's a bbq no longer a potluck) or purely bringing the citizens a bottle of wine. final barbecue I went to grew to become right into a small affair w/ close friends and that i took a bottle of wine and a chocolate bundt cake wrapped actual especially with a bow. The field of candy is a mind-blowing gesture of direction yet won't be setting up for the social gathering. you're on the mind-blowing song, whether:)

Wine is usually good, although I'm not sure about wine at a BBQ. I would probably bring a cheese and cracker tray or basket. Also, make sure you offer to help with any preparations or clean-up. Nothing "gets you in" with family better than offering to pitch in and help.

Flowers are always nice, a nice bottle of wine, or both.
Or if you find out that the sister collects cactus plants or ceramic pigs or whatever, you could find a small item that is not expensive but a more individualized approach for your hosts.

I would just keep it simple: Bake a bundt cake with a sugar-glazed drip icing. It's a homey touch, thoughtful, and they will know that you took the time to bake it especially for their BBQ.
You do not want to over do it for the first get-together, so just keep is simple.
